FIAT CODE PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While doing some maintenance to the A/C (the inside part of the system), the whole panel of the car had to be removed, and of course all the wires to the intruments (sorry for my english) were disconnected, battery also. I don't know why but when all the pieces were setted, the car didn't recognize the keys, nither the red one. The yellow Fiat Code sign doesn't want to turn off. The only way to start the car was by "emergency start" putting the code with the acelerator pedal. My mechanic is now carring the car to a FIAT official place. Do you have any idea of this problem? It seems that computer memory was erased, so it can't recognize key codes. Disconnecting the battery for a long time could cause the problem? Disconnecting the instrument pannel? Other??

Update

To be more clear: The only way to start the car is by doing the emergency start procedure, and the FIAT CODE light remains ON all the time while driving.

"The only way to start the car is by doing the emergency start procedure"

Tommy K - Have you got the Bottle!!

Emergency start is in the owners' handbook to get round the key code system in case the above happens. If you want I can remove the code from your ECU for a small fee if you post it too me. Let me know what Fiat say as I'm sure they will try and tell you it needs a new ECU, code box and keys that's £1500 please.

Response

Tommy k, the problem is this: to start the car you have to make the "Emergency Start", so you have to waste 5 minutes of your life watching a red light flashing and pushing acelerator to introduce a 5 digit password.
The red key doesn't work.
