Fiat Bravo - Injector Warning Light Problem

It seems that many of us are experiencing difficulties with mis-firing Bravos (mostly P reg and with about 30,000 on the clock).

I've just paid £283 to have a replacement injector fitted - which hasn't cleraed the problem.

I'm about to enlist the help of the Fiat dealer from whom I bought the Bravo (and a Punto and a Barchetta) in making a claim against Fiat for the cost of this repair.

As there are many of you who have suffered similar financial loss (not to mention the incovenience) I wondered if you would care to join me in putting some pressure on Fiat to help all of us unlucky Fiat Bravo owners.

Just let me know.

Same problem

Hi,
My situation is almost identical,
P reg 1.6SX, Bravo, 34K, but the replacement
fuel injector has cured the problem, so far.
(Only got the car back yesterday).

I would be willing to do something, also Tara
says the garage she went too had seen this
problem many times before.

Has anyone heard a Fiat dealer/service centre
say anything like that? - That would be good!
Andrew, if you are in you're Fiat dealers try to get them to say s'thing along the same lines,
like a common fault, seen it often, etc.
It is the sort of component that shouldn't give
any trouble.

Has anyone got an address for Fiat UK complaints?

injector problems

I just got my P reg 1.8 back from the garage.

The injector warning light kept on coming and off erratically. Took it to dealer who diagnosed faulty thermostat (stuck open) causing the car to over feed with fuel making the self diagnosis system think there was a fault when there wasn't. Car running too cool hence petrol to air ratio running too rich.
If I gave the car a bit of a workout on the motor way and rev it does it clear the problem temporarily but then car cools down too much due to roadspeed and warning light would come back on.

Just got it back as I said, seems ok at the moment. Mind you have only done 25,000 miles so far so who knows.

Have you had speedo problems?

Injector Light and Restart Problems

I also have a P reg 1.8.
Last night the injector light came on whilst travelling on the Motorway, I pulled over and unfortunately turned the engine off.
An hour later I eventually managed to get it to start again.

Today I added some injection cleaner and, although I know it takes a while to make a difference, the light came back on and the engine would not restart again.

Before contacting the garage (comments about dealers elsewhere on this site don't fill me with confidence!) I would be interested to know 1) if you experienced the restart problem 2) any help that you and others can give me.

Never had problem with restarting.

I must admit, I do tend to use the old cleaning fluid on a regular basis.

Your problem sounds as if there is a problem with the fuel feed. Have you tried resetting the switch below the passenger's seat?

With regards to fuel, I ALWAYS use a busy petrol station so that the fuel is fairly fresh from refinery. Again, always use a major brand. I find BP & Shell to be good, never had problems when I have filled up with them. Esso seems a bit hit and miss.

The solution to my problem.
Dealer tells me I need a new sensor/variator which will correct the timing of the engine.
Cost £300 including labour.

One more P'reg with the fuel injector light on

Hi All,

I also have a P'reg, 1.6SX Brava, and have just encountered this problem. Previously, all worked well, but after replacing the exhaust (at Kwikfit, since they quoted £100 less than everyone else) the fuel injection light is on, and stays on . I checked the plugs, and can see that it is only running on 3 cylinders. Cleaning them made no difference.

My guess is this is linked to the exhaust replacement, perhaps the ECU needs to be adjusted for the new exhaust. Does anyone have any ideas before I take it to a dealer?

Update

- The cause for the injector warning light on my Brava was a faulty injector, replacing it at a cost of £200 seems to have solved it. Just a coincidence it happened exactly the same time the exhaust was changed, I guess.

I think I'll use some injector cleaner though, in the hope I don't need to replace any of the other 3 injectors.

One more for the list

I've just had to replace no.3 injector after the light came on and the engine lost power. Mine is an R reg, 30K.

Fortunately, I bought the car 2nd hand from a Network Q dealer, who refused to sell the car without the Guarantee, even though I said I didn't want it. It was a lot of hassle getting our local Fiat dealer to pay, but they stumped up in the end.

The Fiat dealer said he'd had to replace 5 or 6 no.3 injectors on Bravos. A couple have later needed the others all replaced too. Reckon that Fiat should really stump up as this is clearly a design fault.

Injector light on after new ecu

Just shelled out £588 for a new ecu at the local fiat garage. Drove 2 miles down the road and the injector light came on and seems to be running on 3 cylinders.
Will be taking it back to the garage tomorrow and saving up for the next bill. Anybody want to buy a 97P Bravo 1.6 SX?? Going cheap!!
