Technical Fiat 600 Starter Pinion

Hello All!

I see there are both 8 and 9 tooth starter gear pinions available for the Fiat 600. I’m assuming there’s a different ring gear for each style pinion. Can anyone confirm this, or know what the ring gear tooth count would be for different pinion?

Don't know either way but is it possible the larger pinion starter was mounted further away from the flywheel slightly to compensate for the extra tooth , but at the same time kept the same flywheel number of teeth. Note this is purely a guess.

Interesting thought. Perhaps the bell housing or the starter was in a different position to accommodate the different tooth counts? I don’t have parts manual but it might give some indication.
