U wont it has Carplay until to fit it. But if not you should be able to code CarPlay to it. But u will need 7” surround and a radio code. Once fitted do proxy alignment

Hi all,

I know this is an older thread, but it seems to be the most relevant to my question, so I hope it’s okay to post here.

My daughter has a 2016 Fiat 500 fitted with the 7” Uconnect navigation system (version V23). Unfortunately, this version does not support Apple CarPlay. Recently, we found a used Uconnect 7” unit online (version V27), which – according to multiple sources – should support Apple CarPlay.
However, we contacted two different Fiat dealers, and both told us that the head units are tied to the car’s VIN and that swapping units like this simply won’t work. This surprised me a bit. It seems odd that there wouldn’t be any way to make it work – perhaps with some coding, proxy alignment, or another procedure?
Has anyone here tried replacing a Uconnect 7” unit with a newer version that supports CarPlay?
Is VIN pairing really a hard limitation, or is there a known method to reprogram or adapt the unit so it functions correctly?

Any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,
Marco
