She has had a twinair before but this is her first twinair S and everything is pretty sorted except for one thing. The exhaust. It is pretty shot, rusty and sounds rubbish. So rusty in fact yesterday went underneath to see if we could remove the backbox to clean it up and the clamp just fell apart the minute I touched it.

So our question is : we would like a full stainless system , catback ideally that has a better sound. So what are our options as we know cars but not these ones.
Any suggestions from you lovely lot ?

We saw this and wondered if it would fit ?

If its like a Panda the box will look ropey long before it blows. Very ropey in fact. The clamps onall my fiats have disintegrated with ridiculous speed and replacements usually sort any minor issues. Not a part to get from Fiat! I bought a very decent exhaust from eBay from a Polish supplier. Unfortunately think it was 2019 and I cant find the details. I ordered through eBay and it was delivered in 48hours. Saved me at least 50% of the home supplied price and was apparently at least as well made if not better.

did the link I gave show something that would fit our 500 ?

I just did a search on exhaust Fiat panda and there was a decent offering. Ive had two exhausts from poland. My Bravo one looked like stainless back box. Not specifically sold as but Im fairly certain it was. At £48 delivered I couldnt fault it. i sold the car a year after fitting nad it still looked pretty much as new.

The OEM clamps are integral with the exhaust parts and as has previously been said, soon rust away and eventually disappear. By then, the corrosion that caused the clamps to disintegrate will likely have solidly secured the parts together and if the only purpose of the clamp is to secure the pipe, then it can safely be ignored.

If you (or your MOT tester) want it replaced, just buy a U clamp of the appropriate diameter (about £1.50 from Halfords, usually in stock, one of the few things they're good for).

The exhaust hangers are a different story; these can disappear also (though usually not as fast), but they should be replaced as soon as their integrity becomes suspect; hanger failure could cause the exhaust to fall off in service (expensive and dangerous) or crack the cat/manifold (more expensive).

On the 1.2 in particular, keep a close eye on the catalyst support bracket (it secures the front of the exhaust to the bellhousing) and replace at the first sign of serious corrosion; it's a known weakness that can cause an expensive failure if neglected. You can inspect it if you look under the car from the front; it's just about possible without lifting it.

We got a full stainless system for £300 from these but at a dealer close to us
