A friend has a 1965 Austin Westminster, fitted with a smallblock chevvy engine, a few years back a 911 went to overtake us. The Austin left it for dead! A 911 is a souped up beetle:D not a supercar!

haha, now i definately don't agree with that. THe 911 is considered a legend, ask any of your favourite car commentators and they will give it that!

A souped up beetle, well I never!

My first signiture (a lot of thought put into it): If you can't find the switch to switch your fogs off I am sure I can help you! Damn fogs.

Paul, the G40 in question (with all its mods) pisses over pretty much everything on the road. You would be damn well surprised.

Just watch Santa Pod this year...

PIty Delorean failed really, would be alright if it had the quantum time continium thingy magig from the old back to the future.

ts86net, as you know, "santa pod" and 1/4 of a miles means nothing; there's no fun in it and a fast 1/4 of a mile car doesn't mean a good car. A G40 will go some way but as I said, it is an old polo (G50 in a golf right?) and has useless brakes, bad handling and useless suspension. It's like saying the 126 in the movie clip is a good car, sure it is great at doing the 1/4 of a mile but what else can it do? (I have every right to remove that if i see it winning the next Rally champ lol). The top speed of it is 122 with a fairly ok 0-60, it's pretty fast having a close ratio gearbox (hence low top speed). What's the best you can get out of a car like that without an engine transplant; not a lot and you can't change the engine for much better because the G40 engine is pretty good.

Back to the Deloean, trouble is, it lacks style because 90% of people don't have a clue about what it is and can you imagine all the things that go wrong on it? The Delorean is a sad story really.

theres a club that deals with all the probs u might have with it in the uk ... DOCUK (delorean owners club)... they basicly are delorean and still deal in new parts and so on (they are still readily avaliable in america as there are far more around (infact 95% of all deloreans are in america)

i know they failed and its a shame but its the bet goddam car ever :p

Theres only one word you need to know re the DeLorean... Reanault! Nuff said? My MOT station I use repairs one regular, awful car at least a 911 is reliable even if it has no style;) Ferrari 308 is a nice affordable...ish supercar. Rather have my Fiats though!

Ive just seen that vid...I want one.

I think the term supercar is used too much, a super car must be most of the following:

Fast
Good Handling
Gorgeous to look at
Fairly Rare

That is why TVR's are supercars, but something like Porche 911\ Carrera's arent. Admittedly they are fast, and good to handle and look at, but most flaming accountants worth their salt have got at least one!

Theyre far too common..I mean look at TVR, how many of their cars do yu see on the roads? one every few weeks if yure lucky:D...

It's an old Polo yes, but then the one in question is modifed. So suspension and other handling bits is much improved. There is loads you can do to that engine (like pretty much all engines) and being forced induction the gains tend to be greater. A straight line sprint does say a lot about a car (acceleration) especially when it's equal (if not better) than a Porsche (which from your posts apparently should be bloody great or something?). Anyways, check this out... It is from the Guiness World Car Records 1992, a little while after the G40 was released.

The G40 is in position 22nd. Just look at all the cars it "beats". Some of those Porsche's mentioned are around it. Do remember this is for a STANDARD G40. With all the mods my mate has done, it's even quicker (mods: twin induction, charger bits, head work, camshaft, ECU, exhaust, etc. etc.)

Yes, it's a 1.3 and weighs under a ton. Anyways, from all this... yes, it doesn't mean it's a "good car" (that's all about opinion), but it can sure make things look very silly.

All what?

I personally think the G40 is very kewl. The standard Polo GT is fast enough, I was in one on saturday (one of three pople in the car) and it easily wheelspun in first into second and then into third...its got an amazing amount of torque for a 1.3 to do that:D.

Oh, it had been raining a few hrs before, but still, my mum's 16v 1400 Clio cant replicate that with two people in it![}:)]

Take a look at our friend's 126:

Might help explain its speed!

My first signiture (a lot of thought put into it): If you can't find the switch to switch your fogs off I am sure I can help you! Damn fogs.

Gotta say I love the 911, always have, always will, don't care how fast it is, whether its the pure lines of an early 60's example, an overly bodykitted mid eighties Carrera, or a not so pure water cooled 996, they're all lovely:D

My choice would be a Carrera 4s, not the quickest, granted, but much cleaner lines than a bodykitted turbo or GT, and with 4wheel drive a bit more of a drivers car than the standard carrera.

Don't get me wrong, I love Ferrari's and Lambo's, but they're sunny afternoon cars, the essence of a 911 is it can be used day in, day out.

And as for them being supercars... I have to be honest and say only the turbo or GT3 really qualify;)

Stilo TURBO!!!!(diesel)

James can join my club (2 members now) of liking such a perfect car then.

I still think they are all supercars though ;)

But having such a design is all part of its "perfectness" just like you may thing a Fiat is perfect! It doesn't mean it is literally perfect as perfect is a matter of opinion not fact.
