Your clock spring has probably had it by the looks of it. If it has DO NOT drive the car unit you've replaced it, as you'll risk the airbag going off!

As you've suggested though, pop the airbag off an check it's not a loose connection under it, hopefully it will be for speed of repair, and cost.

It's not exactly clear how the bag comes out. I see the holes and the clips but nothings moving. Dangit!

Have a look at this link and a vid there Mook, might help you with airbag removal.

Helped me when I was swapping Pandas steering wheel for Abarths one. Ideally u want a took as close to airbag removal tool as possible as it will fit better. Which is basically a medium flat screwdriver that was bent in the middle into "L" shape. U have to pop 3 clips first with the engine running so u can turn the steering wheel to get to each clip. DO NOT force, if one of the clips dont pop then turn steering wheel for better angle, its all about the angle here :D. If u turn wheel in the right angle and get behind with a torch u can actually see the clip to give u an idea how to deal with it. Its not hard u just need to see how to opperate the clips. Once all 3 popped, DO NOT REMOVE airbag. Switch engine off and disconnect the battery. Turn the key on and switch different lights on in the car to drain any voltage left in the system. Now u can remove airbag. (y)

Good luck :D

Hope this will be of any help to u Mook.

Jesus Christ NO! :bang:

Engine should be off and battery disconnected at lease 30 min before touching the airbag at all!

The wheel still moves with the engine off ;)

popping clips is not going to set the airbag off! Unless u have a short there in which case the airbag would ve gone off long time ago. By popping clips u r tampering with mechanical not the electrical side of airbag.

You slip with the screwdriver and anything is possible! Warnings are there for a reason and you should not be suggesting potentially deadly methods of airbag removal.

Like you say. Wheel turns without engine running. Battery disconnected for last hour... Light fading. Lol

Well you'll be please to know refitting the airbag is a simple case of pushing it into place :p

When you've done one clip you'll realise how the rest some off, and will find it fairly easy. There is a bit of a knack to it, You need to get the angle of the screw driver just right (y)

I've got two types is screw drivers. Those that bend too easily and those that snap. Lol

I'm Assuming, looking at the clip, there are two metal bars

I'm assuming I need to pull the whole thing "outwards" past the edge on the left

U see the hook arm on coming from the right hand side to hook over the pin bar. U need to place blade of the flat driver in between and not lever it but to turn it clock or anti clock wise and it should get clip to pop. Need a sharp enough driver.

u can click on the image to open it up to full size.

U need to place screwdriver where I've marked the yellow line. Hope this helps
No force needed as they pop quite easy. Just need good angle and good driver placement.

thats the airbag removing tools compared to normal screwdriver.
