Hi,

I picked up 2005 multipla yesterday and I'm currently working through a multitude of issues with it  Current problem I'm looking at is the reversing sensors aren't working, a continuous tone is given when reverse is selected which I believe indicates a problem. Is there an easy way to find out what the problem is or is it a case of dismantle, clean, reassemble and hope for the best??

Cheers

Mine does the same (intermittently) and has done in all the time I've owned it. I've never bothered to do anything about it, as it's pretty near the bottom of my To Do list and other things are always queue jumping.

The problem is probably down to a bad connection from one of the sensors. The control unit, that also has the speaker in it, is at nearside rear next to the light cluster, accessed through the panel that covers the jack etc IIRC.

To find out which sensor is playing up, put the ignition to MAR (i.e. first click) and select reverse. If you then listen very carefully to each sensor in turn (you'll need to have your ear right up to the sensor) you should hear a clicking sound coming from them. That's the bottom end of the ultrasound spectrum that they emit to detect objects. The one(s) that isn't (aren't) clicking are the ones with a problem. The sensors can be unclipped by reaching around behind the bumper but they are fiddly things to remove, especially if you've got a tow bar fitted - which is why I haven't bothered to try fixing mine :D

Thanks for that :D not the highest priority on my list either but I have a couple of days off later this week so hopefully I will get round to it then.

I will have a look and if I gather any useful info/tips I'll post back with it.

Well I had 15 mins spare tonight so thought I would have a quick look. Luckily no tow bar so access was easy. Put it into reverse and one sensor wasnt clicking. Pushed the connector on the back and it all sprang in to life! Hoping it was just a loose connector so we'll see if it lasts.

Thanks again :D
