Technical Faulty dashboard

Hi all. I have a 2004 1.4 16v stilo active aircon.
Before we went on holiday, the car was fine, everything was working. When we got back from holiday, we didn't use it for another month and found out the battery was dead. I jump started it and the car came back to life. An hour later from jump start, I went to use the car and it was dead. So I jump started it again and the dashboard lights flickered and died? On the first jump start, the dashboard was ok (working), now it's dead???? I've checked the fuses and they all seem to be ok

I forgot to mention, before the dashboard died, I use to get a warning saying rear break light failure. Now the dashboard isn't working the rear light is working!! I'm seeing alot of different answers in the stilo thread which is awesome but i was hoping if someone could direct me with an answer if they had the same problem from a jump start.

Would be best to take the battery and charge it fully with a charger. Perhaps get a load test done on it. A dodgy battery can be the cause of many ills.

Thank you for the reply maigretnz. Charged the battery overnight. It's fully charged and still nothing on dashboard. Every single instruments in the car works, all the lights outside of the car work. Even the car started up better this morning with a fully charged battery.

Just a tip if you had to jump the car and 10 mins runs is not going to put any reasonable amount of charge into the battery you'd really need a good hour run to get a reasonable amount of charge into it

Thanks chris. The battery is fully charged now. The good news is I've got the dashboard to work. I took it out and stripped it just to the circuit board. Cleaned it and use a blow dryer on very small heat. I then put everything back together, even put the needles back on but only two needles are moving, the ref and speed are working. The petrol and C-H needle won't move when I turn the key.

Not sure how much the pin needs to be in with needle?? Sometimes it feels very tight and won't move. When I do get it to move the needle looks like it's hanging on with 2 or 3mm gap?? Is there an easy way for the needles to go on?? The ref and speed counter are ok, the needles went on easy!!

All done now. Taking the dashboard out, stripping it to the circuit board and cleaning it, also using a hairdryer on low heat sorted it out. The needles were tricky but got all four working. Thanks to the ppl who replied to my previous post. The only way to fix things is a good hard look on Google and find your answers!!

Try cleaning the terminals on the fuses. Corroded terminals can cause trouble too.

Yep! - corroded terminals can cause big issues...

When i have fixed my fuse box in the engine bay - i will post up some pics of the damage caused by two fuse slots that where corroded, the fog lamp fuse terminals have gone green (ingress) and the fuse melted and shorted out, this also melted the plastic that the fuses slot into (luckily i have a spare unit).

Been meaning to get round to it for weeks now but things have either got in the way or we have had serious bad weather, i will also be insulating the box so no damp can get to it.

Hi all, I'm back.

This is not related to my previous question about the dashboard. However, the petrol & temp needle dont work.

The reason for this post is, My stilo is sat on my drive and its time to get rid. If any of you guys are interested please let me know. If you want the full car or any parts just let me know.

I haven't posted the car on any social media networks, ebay, gumtree etc....

Stilo Info:-
1.4 16v aircon active 54 plate, dark blue, millage just over 82k

The steering wheel slightly rubs on its cover due to when i took it apart to get the dashboard out.

The only things that are not working properly is the 5 disc multi changer, Petrol & temp needle don't move. Battery is dead as a donut but the battery is new, i bought it beginning of Feb, still have the receipt.
Everything else is good
