hi all again, the fan on the multi isnt working and ive been told to get two wires from the battery and connect them directly to the fans plug to see if its the fan thats broke or just the switch that controles the fan. Done that and the fan dosnt go round.................so in your view have i done it right and does it look like a new fan is in order.

the usual way to do it is to pull the connector off the fan switch and join the terminals in the connector together with some wire. that way if the fan comes on you know its the switch not the wiring,

yep cheers kev done that already and the fan didnt come on. so you think it might be the switch......where will i find the switch ?

cheers

the process for working out whats wrong is as follows

1. Pull the connector off the back of the fan switch(usually located on the radiator - havent checked mine but look on ebay etc for pics of what it will look like.) Typically european cars activate the fan by creating a short circuit across the switch to start the fan. Therefore you must bridge across the the connector you removed from the switch which effectively bypasses the switch.
If the fan now runs you have diagnosed the switch as the source of the fault. Make sure you turn the ignition on after bridging the connector.

2.If the fan fails to run during the check at stage 1 remove the connector from the fan and using direct connections from the battery connect the fan to the 12 volt supply. If it doesn't run it is the fan that is faulty. If it does run you have diagnosed that it is the wiring in the fan circuit at fault because you already know it isn't the switch.

Hope this helps, i will try to have a look at mine today and take a pic of the switch / wiring
