Hi just been driving a fiat idea, 2004, 1.3 multijet.
Been told it has a few issues but I've seen none of them so far.

The main issue currently is from time to time after the engine has run a little while the car makes an awful noise. I've watched the engine and it seems to be the fans mounted to the radiator.

I'm unsure what's causing it but from time to time the fan seems to rattle in the mounting. I'm not sure if something is missing or if its down to the alternator being changed?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi :)

The fans are simple units.. powered from the vehicles wiring loom

They are triggered by temperature.. one for radiator 2nd for aircon

Its possible the fan motor is failing..

Or the mount is poor.. BUT the fan shouldnt run that often !

HOWEVER.. its a diesel..
When these perform a DPF regen.. a characteristic sign is the cooling fan running

If it has been running lots.. there is a potential issue with the DPF system

Any warning lights on the dash?

Has a balancing clip fallen off 5he fan?

Look for a small area in one of the blades that's isn't as discoloured as the rest of it

Hi vares
There are no lights on the dash and no underlying errors according to my OBD2 scanner.
It was the driver side fan rattling. There were no issues until I'd had the Aircon on for a little bit but not tested since. I can't see any damage to the mounts at all and unsure if its due to the DPF at all.

Hi Chris.
On a close look at the fans I can't see any discolouration, lightness or clean patches no don't think there have been any clips on.
I'll ask my garage about balancing the fan though
