oh ps just noticed you put volumetric sensors im assuming you mean the ones located in the car if that not them where might i locate the volumetric sensors matey.Cheers not much of a techno im afraid lol

Ok just been reading a previous thread on the alarm.I reckon i got just an immobiliser but no alarm even though there is ultrsonic sensors in the car.I think the indicator flashing is set too off at mo as they don't flash when i lock the car and i read that if you take it to a fiat dealer that they can activate this for you.My point is this why have just the indiactors flashing i mean if some one trys braking into your beloved car you want it to make a sound to let you now ,whats the point of just the lights flashing.Its another case of being conned i would at least have thought that buying a so called top spec car which the abarth supposedly is then an alarm would at least be standard fit.Right rant over.Oh ps just for info does anyone know how much it is to have fiat upgrade and install an alarm to my car just out of intrest.

So are you not bothered about getting your indicators to flash then

would love them to flash, but dealer couldnt do it when i asked them and asking subsequently means i will now have to pay for it.

unless someone here can do it for free?

Aha yes i got an alarm for sure as at top of the window is the 2 sensors that is for the ultra sonics.Im on a 52 plate funny though i have never actually heard my alarm go off is there any way i can test it.

sit inside the car, lock it with remote then open the door from the inside

Here you go.

This is what a full factory fit looks like. Notice the two dark holes on the left and right. These are the ultrasonic sensors.

If you have these then you've almost certainly got a factory fit alarm which, if it's not working, should be repairable.

Note that it ISN'T possible to retro-fit the factory alarm if it was never installed in the first place.

Or, if your Stilo is not fitted with a Skyroof, it looks like this (attached).

While we're on the topic, could someone please comment on what should happen upon pressing the ultrasonics-cutout button (the left button in my pic)? I get a high-speed flashing for a few seconds, then nothing - and my alarm still doesn't arm (just lets out the second beep).

Alex,
I have a sky roof and alarm, i use this button when i want to disengage the ultrasonics when leaving windows slightly cracked open.
i press it, it flashes as you describe, i hen exit the vehicle, press teh fob, one beep and it's armed and doesn't go off.

if i don't press this button the bloody thing goes off if someone farts near it with the windows open.

Ok fellas thanks for the input but i think from looking at all the info on the subject my abarth has just got the standard fit immobilser with flashing indicators (no alarm ) im off work next week having to do some decorating at home,im having cam belt change done on car il pop round to my local fiat dealer and have a chat to them to find out exactly what it is i got for certain but i got nothing like what you showed me argo.I will enquire about how much alarm is whilst im there.Cheers Lee.

FIAT can fit an alarm, but it wont be the standard one with the controls in the header console.

According to Brio! acessory catalogue it costs £140.47

Attempted theft/alarm failure linked to keys??

RE an 02 STILO 1.2 16V 3DR - my first car!

Hi all... first of all.. thanks to the site for saving my really annoying 'airbag failure, turn off engine' fault - contact cleaner... all done.

I now have another problem! This morning out of the blue, I had "ATTEMPTED THEFT" along with the padlock yellow symbol on the dash. I noted when pushing the key pad (from about 2 metres away) that the usual 2 BEEPS was gone, and I got just a little 'meep'

When I got to work, restarted the car after 5 mins, and just had the "ALARM FAILURE" with a spanner picutre.

On arriving at home, and attempting to lock the car, again I have the same 'meep' instead of the previously prominent BEEP. Could all of this be down to a low battery on the keys? I tend to not look at the LED on the key when opening and closing the car, but I am sure it used to show a green light (?) which now appears amber... BUT i've had no message on the dash to say the battery is low.

Any ideas?! Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place!

mine does something similar after a trip to the fiat dealer to alter the sensitivity of the alarm doesn't happen very often but when I set the alarm eveything is normal, indicators flash 3 times, then a short while after (about 5 secs) I get a short "meep" noise which means the alarm hasn't been set properly.

I set reset the alarm again and everything is fine

"attampted theft" means your alarm has been going off.

So you're sure the message is false then?

I think a while back someone thought they'd had a false alarm but then discovered someone had tried to force down the passenger window (and then discovered some damage to the mechanism)

Totally with Argo here, I think it's probably worth making sure someone hasn't had a go at your car. Eroneous alarm faults, and certainly false attempted theft warnings, aren't something we see a lot of here, and you don't want to waste time trying to fix a problem that's not there when you could be hunting down the scrote that tried to nick your motor

right when I bought the car the alarm went off whenever a bus/ car with loud zorst drove past.

took it to FIAT and on the 3rd attempt they managed to fix it.

now a year on it's started doing the same thing again, I'm not taking it to FIAT because I had a "run in" with my local dealer and I'm not going back there.

went to ISTS this weekend when it started up again and either the loud music blasting from everywhere or I had a rattling from the header console (where you can turn off sensors), so I pulled it off and moved one of the wires which was causing the rattle.

Anybody have any ideas as to how it can be altered? oh and it's a factory fit alarm.

Mine has started doing this too. Every week when the rubbish truck comes down the street, the alarm goes off. I also have a factory fit alarm. At first I checked to see if they actually hit my car by mistake, but it is just the vibration from the truck as it passes my car.

Pretty sure you can adjust sensitivity and such with Examiner so just need to find a friendly dealer who doesn't charge too much.

Local specialist to me only charges £35+VAT for one hour with it (they'll check anything you want during that time).

so it's only adjusted by examiner? I think last time they fixed it they said they "adjusted the pins" hope it's not examiner because I'm not too welcome at dealer lol may have to find a local specialist with examiner.

Should be able to fix it without examiner if you have some time and patience. Adjusted the pins? makes me think it has a poor wiring connection somewhere. Unplug and replug all connectors a few times to make sure they are getting a good connection would be the first thing to try.

Stilos have the uncanny ability to make even gold plated connector pins corrode and have poor connection.
