Bit like Michael Schumacher then :cheesy: but seriously folks......

Fair comment, but it would only be fair to say that only relatively recent ex-world champions are likely to provide a frame of reference to the depths of talent Hamilton has at his disposal - he is an astonishing driver.
Who would have thought Fisi would put a Force India on pole? Or Trulli winning at Monaco or Kobayashi being arguably the best overtaker in the sport..... put Heikki in a top car again and I think he could match the best. Some great drivers have passed all too briefly through F1 as they haven't shone, some F1 drivers of the past shouldn't have been there at all (and I can think of one or two this season too!) and some just need to acclimatise over time which F1 doesn't offer.

Roll on the next race.

What a start for Alonso! Straight out the box and past the two red bulls  shame it didn't last :( Not sure what the crack is with Massa, needs to find some form if he's expecting to get a contract renewal imo.

Seems the McLaren's have found the edge to get up in there an mix it with the RBs, definitely looks like the "options" (tyres to you and me) are making a big difference to the handling of the car and the ability to do hot laps. Here's hoping the Ferrari's can find that magic wee tweak to pull out a bit more something for the Monaco GP 29th May 2011

Enjoyed the race I have to say though just wish Lewis had managed to get past the RB. It's the same old story though, the McL's just don't have the downforce compared to the RB. Been that way the past few seasons it seems :/ Noticed DRS did feck all to help the overtakes as well, interested to see how it plays out in Monaco.

One last thing as well, Vettel on the radio just after he won did a Crazy Frog impression. This of course makes me like him even more

Thoroughly enjoyed that race although the DRS activation point seemed to do little for overtaking opportunities for the front runners other than allowing the lapping of slower cars.
Lewis seemed to be able to keep Seb honest but that Red Bull chassis certainly seems to have the best all-round grip, McLarens aren't far behind though. Ultimately Ferrari were a bit of a damp squib, but it was nice to see Alonso making everyone else look properly daft at the start. For me the 'unsung hero' of the race was Perez, hasn't really shone like he did in Australia but a really solid race from him in Spain with some assertive over-taking and decent race craft.
My 'Top Spanner' award has to go to Massa who just seems to be lost at the moment.
Roll-on Monaco, can't help but feel KERs will have more bearing on the race than DRS which means that Red Bull really need to get their KERs issues sorted or they will be (albeit very quick) rolling road blocks.

There was a news report the other day that RBs sponser partner Infiniti could assist them with their KERS system as it mentioned that the system onboard the RBs was a self developed one. As Infiniti have or are working on electric cars, their going to share the technology.

It has also been reported that RB could work closely with Infiniti to create a road going sports car, abit like Renault did with Williams in the 90s. Full story can be see here on WHAT CAR?

Certainly in Monaco I think KERS will come into play up the hill after the chicane. Off the start, there's too short a run down to said chicane. Shall be interesting to see how DRS works out though as Monaco's not really wide enough in most parts to get alongside for an overtake in that way as shown by many epic battles like the one in '92.

As for the RB getting help with KERS, I think it's better if they don't have it - evens out the top of the grid a bit more in the race I reckon :D

Well what a race, starting off under Safety Car conditions due to the torrential rain, it seemed as though the race could just be a glorified procession. Once the Safety Car left there was a flurry of activity, including a little coming together of the two McLaren cars with Hamilton coming off worse, ending his race. The race was eventually red flagged and the cars parked up on the grid till the race could be resumed.

After a long delay and the track was dried out, the race resumed under the safety car. Eventually the safety car was removed and some fantastic racing ensued. Vettel lead the pack in his Red Bull whereas Webber in the other RB had some issues with the car, although by his own admission he's struggling with the new tyres.

With various incidents throughout the race and a blinding charge by the wet-meister M Schumacher made for an entertaining finale, huge credit has to go to Jenson Button who managed to get up to second and with the pressure just getting to Vettel, Vettel had a wee slide on the last lap allowing Button though for the victory.

Kobayashi has been in the thick of this race, second on the grid at the restart and holding Massa up most of the day, right to final flag where Massa was only able to get the nose over the line in front of Kobayashi to claim 6th position. Kobayashi also unwillingly aided Schmacher to get himself and Massa by almost putting Massa off the track.

Simply put it was the longest live coverage I've ever watched of a F1 race and I'm glad I watched every minute!
Being a JB 'fan' I'm maybe a wee bit biased but I thought his drive from last to first was epic - he was just so much faster than everyone else in that last stint after the final safety car.
Young Paul Di Resta did a good job for Force India but came to a sticky end. In difficult circumstances I though Pedro de la Rosa did well to finish at all; there were some moments of pure class in his drive to 12th.
My 'muppet of the race award' goes equally to Nick Heidfield and Lewis Hamilton, both were maybe a little over zealous in their approach to the race - it's F1, not millionaires dodgems.
Excellent race, but how will they all fare when the revision to the exhaust gases rules comes in at the British GP?

You put it so well, good post.

JB had an inspired drive, absolutely nailed it to near perfection an reaped the reward. IMO I think the RB's definitely showed a weakness in the wet. Webber had struggled to keep up with Schumacher and Button then as the track dried out the car came back to form. Di Resta is definitely showing signs of improvement considering it was his 7th GP, a promising talent from Scotland.

was laughing like mad at that too, and a camerman fell over in the rain break while filming Rihanna in the pitlane...they were clearly all getting pished in the rain break

I couldn't help but do my own Vettel style flick of the number one at the tv screen on that last lap

Have to say though, if Lewis hadn't have been so full-hardy, McLaren could've gotten a 1-2. Would've actually liked to have seen Schui on the podium too, just for the hell of it. Knock Vettel down another step or two as well

That red flag period was awesome though, the banter DC and Brundle had was great  Could have sworn Lewis was firing into Rihanna as well, which I can't blame him for - I'd definitely go for her over...whats-her-face...Nicole Schwarzenegger ;)

i love what hammy said to rihanna ... see that small gap i have to fit in there .. while pointing to his car ;)

I also like the red flag 2 hour beake , it was good banter , and i have to say button was on form , and he just pushed at the rite time :D and i was saying to my mam , id laff if button would do the number 1 finger vettel dose ,, and then he dose it lol

Yeah, loved it when he did that on the podium. Vettel didn't look happy at all and see the way his face went when Mark said, "...we each got the places we deserved...", marvellous

Damn that consistent Vettel

Seriously though, can't believe the way that turned out for the British drivers. Not one of them had a bad luck free race and it seems to be the norm these last few seasons with Hamilton being the last to win it in '08 (I think) and then before that Coultard back in 2000 (again, I think). Like Rubens in Brazil, they never seem to get much of a break at their home GP. Ah well.

I am happy Alonso won it, the Ferrari's been steadily improving and taking the fight to RB. McLaren though really were on the back foot all weekend I reckon, as their car's had downforce issues these past few seasons and removing a good proportion of it was always going to affect them worse than RB. Ferrari, as was implied in the commentary and race build up, haven't been impacted so much probably due to borrowing a number of design features from Red Bull in terms of the aero. That's my theory anyway. Plus Alonso always throttles a car far more effectively than Massa does.

Roll on the next GP and hopefully Seb will have a few bad'uns to equal up the championship race. Seriously don't want it decided midway through the season :/

paul di resta needs out of force india as soon as possible

how often this season has he done a tremendous job only to be let down by a team error with either tyres, strategy or pit stops?
