Just wanted some opinions...

What would you have done?

Ugh! What a joke!

They should have allowed them to change tyres.

The words "brewery" and "**** up" spring immediately to mind.

Why the hell wasn't this sorted out sooner ? They knew about this yesterday. And why wasn't a chicane built ?

A total shambles.

That feckless goon Ecclestone is a **** and should retire immediately. And Michelin should get the boot.

I feel sorry for all the teams, even the ones that are racing, because it isn't their fault. I certainly wouldn't send out a driver with tyres that are liable to explode at 200mph. And the Bridgestone runners are contractually obliged to race. Maybe a bit of team solidarity would've been nice, but as they keep saying, when you are racing in the most letigious country in the world, would you be prepared to risk facing multiple lawsuits ?

A sad day indeed.

Well i just heard that the other teams were quiet happy to have the chacane installed and not score points...

Daz

Should have let them race. They are allowed to change tyres when they are worn severely, and if the drivers run at a slightly reduced rate on that bend they should be able to tell when that is required before a blow out. They are after all professional drivers who get a shed load of money to use their skills.

if i was incharge i wouldnt have done anything different!

i know it sounds stupid and gay but why should those with bridgestones have to pay for the other teams mistakes, if their cars are not safe or the cars maynot be safe it is the teams fault, they chose to have micilen tyres so they have to deal with it, agreed its ruind the race but rules are rules and if it had been the other way with bridgestone tyres no one would have cared as it wasnt a mayority of the races!

i bet contracts for miclien tyres next year go down though :)

Well i just heard that the other teams were quiet happy to have the chacane installed and not score points...

Which is why i thought this may have happened...

Michelin shipped in a new batch of tyres that weren't faulty but due to the FIA rules, they weren't allowed to use them. Apparantly 5 rules would have been broken. What a load of ******. The FIA is as much to blame as Michelin, if not more so. The teams are in the right, and that jumped up little midget with the trophy hanger on of a wife should take it on his 75 year old chin and either sort it or leave.

Rob

maybe but i heard that ferrari actually apealed against the chacane? well J tod anyway!

Paul R

Ferrari said they were happy to race with or without a chicane. They just didn't agree to not race if there wasn't a chicane.

Rob

what a joke. obviously we dont want all the 16 drivers flying around at 200 mph plus and then having a catastrophic failiure, but the fact that none of the cough 'top brass' cough could come to an amicable agreement is farsicle.

Michellin were not allowed to fly out the tyres at all, as it had already been made very clear that with the rules as they are this season they would have been in direct breach of them. but there was also the factor that they were a new construction and full testing had not been carried out on them, and even if they had, would they experience the same anyway? afterall they didnt realise they had such a problem until friday / saturday.

its a huge embarassement fro both the FIA and Michellin, in probably one of the biggest arenas possible, given the circuit and publicity it recieves.

i dont see why the chicane could not have been built last night, the correct althoroties already new the score.

this is a sad sad day for one of the most prestigious sports in the world.

thats my rant over.............

for now!

Andy

ok the race was a fast BUT its the correct conclusion.

1) start with the michellin tyre. the reason its blowing up is because of the pressure being to low. the lower the pressure the higher the heat build up is and basically the wall of the tyre was exploding. BUT michellin tyre isnt as faulty as u think tho. the michellin tyre would of been ok if they pumped more psi in. but michellin didnt want to do this as it was an unfair advantage to bridgestone.

2) its unfair to bridgestone to put in a shickane(sp) its not there fault they know about the stress and produced a proper tyre that can handle the stress.

3) 9 teams out the 10 wanted the shickane or there not running. this is a load of ****. as its said else where. these are provessional drivers. and wat was to stop the michellin runners slowing down on the corner any way. thats all the shickane would of done slown them up a little bit. instead of razzin round at 200+ go round at 180. ok u aint gonna win the race over the bridgestone but it would of been a race. for the spectators to watch.

4) ferrari. the impression i got was that every team was blaming ferrari. well i say well done to them. they had a package that could handle it why should they suffer. its like in football if a team dont turn up its a default win to the other team.

i can go on and on. but basically how it was is how it should of been.

the people i feel sorry for where the spectators they've paid a **** load of cash to go watch travelled miles all over the place get there to see all of six cars go round, i would be severely pi**ed off if it had been me that had paid.

Think it might just be the end of the F1 in america, it struggles over there anyway, as they said on the tv last night it may well be the last race over there.

Motor sport in usa is huge and F1 has just balls up its chance out there. With that many teams going out the F1A should of stoped and let them change tyres, but it is more about money the driver safty to the **** in charge.

The moto GP goes out there next month i think the F1A should watch that and be thinking.

Lee

if all the bridgestone drivers where proper sportsmen they would have refused to race

pmsl.... the above comment is the most stupid comment i ever heard. that like saying if arsenal play manchester utd. and man u dont turn up that arsenal dont accept the 3 points.

It is very difficult, and there is a lot of money at stake for the teams, but surely closing off the entire American market, and leaving 120,000 disgruntled fans throwing beer cans at the track could have been avoided by someone taking charge, making a decision and sticking to it. Pick up the pieces after they'd given the yanks a race to be proud of.

there was 3 possible conclusions

1) the one that happened

2) the michellins run but drive slower round the last corner

or 3) as brundle said. let the michellen run with the shickane but they cant score points.

how ever u looked at it the ferrari and bridgestone teams were gonna get screwed over one way or another

As much as I hate Ferarri (in F1 anyways, they are arrogant, Schumacher is a cheating fcuk who gets away with whatever he chooses) I think the outcome was correct, it was Michelins fault plain and simple. They took the wrong tyres, and quite rightly they were not allowed to ship the right tyres out as it would have breached the rules.
Why should the Bridgestone runners have to be hampered by a chicane just because the Michelin drivers refused to slow down to save their lives?
Of course Ferarri were the only team not to agree to race with the chicane, they were in the best place to benefit from the Michelin shod cars dropping out.
It's the same in the bike MotoGP, the tyre makers have to take a set amount of tyres per race and that's it, if they mess up then their riders/drivers are in for a tough race.
The only way to get around this and to stop certain tracks being better for different makes is to have a control tyre. In World Superbikes they brought in a control tyre, (Pirelli) that every team has to use, oh they all manked and moaned about it, but this is the second season and the racing is still damn good, and not one team has a single advantage because they have the best tyre.

Intoducing a chicane was not an acceptable solution either.

Brundle said they forced the FIA to add chicanes to a few tracks after Sennas death, but it was completely different, as it was done before the races so they ran all the practice and qually etc with the modified circuit.
To add a chicane just before the race when the cars are all set up with downforce, gearing, brakes etc for a fast straight, and to have 20 cars at racing speeds arrive at an unknown part of the track on the 1st lap, could have caused accidents and left the FIA and teams open to law suits.

The FIA statement said that Michelin knew the tryes were not up for the job on Friday and could have shipped in new tyres in time for qually, and then there would have been no penalty for the teams, but they didn't. Probably for 2 reasons, 1: the other tyre wouldn't have been as fast, 2: they couldn't be sure the other tyres would not be just as dangerous.
So at the end of the day it is entirely the fault of Michelin. They have to take responsibility and pay the price. They should have to compensate the spectators at the IMS.

I think there is no way the Michelin teams could have raced on any tyre safely, so what happened was the only thing that could have happened. There was not much the FIA could have done.

I am not saying the FIA is blameless. It is partly their fault that this was allowed to occur. The rules introduced recently are to blame, but they had no way to stop it happening, they were painted into a corner.

The only way to stop it happening again is a single tyre supplier, a return to the old rules, tyre changes, as may engines as you want, proper full speed qualifing, etc, so if it does happen again it is possible to delay the race by an hour, run an extra practice session, change set up etc. These stupid cost saving rules restrict any of that from happening, and are ruining the sport.

Proper cost savings should come from commom components, ECUs, brakes, gearboxes, tyres, steering wheels etc.

Have to get some work done. Rant over - sorry
