Hi All,

I'm new round here but have been meaning to register for a while now.

I am apathetic proud owner of a 1.2 speedgear elm in orange. I have had the car since mid December and haven't had any issues with it. On my way home today I started to hear a blowing sound and assumed I had a hole in the exhaust. Thought it would be okay to pop to the shops and back but boy was I wrong. 500yrds from home the exhaust broke apart and hit the ground. I have managed to use some cable to hold it up and pull it back together but am going to need a new exhaust ASAP.

I am not fussed about anything special, stock is fine. I have looked on eurocar parts and see there are two sections to the exhaust but I have no idea which part to buy.

It has broken right at the join between the pipe going towards the back of the car and the box near the middle of the car. (Hope that makes sense)

Which part/s do I need to buy ? I have someone who can fit it but I need to buy the part for them and I want to know what to buy before they get here during the week.

Thanks for any help.

Ahh okay.

Think I have 16v then as I have two boxes?

I have two car ramps from half orcs I can put the car on, would that be high enough to do it?

Are you able to send me a link to what I would need?

Thanks

hi YST you may have a couple of diy problems
first is the centre section of the exhaust bolts to the cat pipe and these go off with age and its very difficult to use anything but either a grinder ,difficult or oxy acetaline or an induction heater
the silly bolt heads are like 12.5 mm sized
i often take manifold off if more work needed and grind the bolts out of the cat
other problem you will have is rear of body needs raising to get back box over axle
if i was you i would price up a basic system from local fast fit places fitted ,a basic 8 valve will fit but might be noisier and not give enough back pressure for youer engine/gearbox set up

Will do, thanks.

Any idea what this should cost? Don't want to get ripped off haha.

sorry no
you wont get ripped if you get a few quotes just make sure they include clamps and rubbers in total price
a local garage should be competative too
i pay
£24 centre section
£22 rear box
rubbers £1.50
clamps 50p

this is for cheapest available but should last 2 years plus

plus an hours labour

Cheers! Much appreciated!

Love the car so want to make sure it is in tip top condition (y)

i paid some years ago before i was a mechanic myself, the sum of £100 :(

Only to have fitted Crappy material boxes, no rubber hangers and to find it was failing rapidly every 2 to 3 months, it'd fail again and again

So buy decent boxes once, fit correctly once - as SandB said, new rubbers, clamps, nuts and bolts

I've had the bolts removed out my cat before, so that i could fit my own nuts and bolts instead, as even new ones can cause issues, and snap....

how do you know you have been up sold to quality though when they all look the same

Thanks for the input guys. Going to pay a visit to my local merityre tomorrow morning. They have done a few exhausts for me in the past with no issues so guess I will end up there.

Quick Question, I have the 16v Speedgear auto but my average MPG is only 34 in economy doing city driving. This seems rather low? It can go up to 50mpg in long distance but the 34mpg seems a bit low!

Thanks

ive tried 2 of these now and after picking myself up from paying the road tax
ive found them uneconomical
it doesnt help that they like 3000 revs though unles you can pull your foot back carefully once moving
i love autos but not these

Yeah It can be a real pain in the ass. I find my self putting £20 a week in just for small daily trips. I also live in a really hilly town so that doesn't help! Wasn't sure if there could be something wrong that caused the low mpg or if it was to be expected. :bang:

I, personally, think there's something wrong. I've driven all sorts of autos, and this is by far the best. It's smooth, powerful (when you need it to be), economical, and just fun (and relaxing) to be in. :)

Mine's never returned much less than 40 mpg, even in town; and I often get well over 50, on motorway journeys. (Most of my driving is a 12-mile journey on 50/60 mph roads, mixed with equal amounts of town driving.) Just changed both lambdas (and yet another thermostat), and I'm getting between 5 and 10% better consumption (which I measure as pence per mile; and not using the on-screen read-out; but properly calculated...). I also always use Shell V-Power Nitro+ Unleaded in mine. (y)

Admittedly, I have a lightish right foot; but I drive at the speed limit -- just using the principles of advanced driving: which is all about progress, as well as safety (so no heavy braking, etc.) -- although I will hit the loud pedal hard, to get up to speed, joining a motorway. Apart from that, there's no need to hang onto the revs, to get it up to speed.... :D

How long does yours take to warm up? Lazy stats seem to be the plague of Puntos. And when was it last serviced...? Particularly, when were the gearbox oil and filter last replaced...?

PS: I did notice, after Mrs homeward borrowed it for a week (she usually drives the Mk3 Panda), that consumption for that tank of fuel was around the 38 mpg mark! But the homewardette tells me that she was quite enjoying the extra few horsepower...!
