Technical Error message

I was trying "to talk" to my ECU using a ELM327 1.4 interface with the FiatECUScan software and very thung went ok until I try to connect to the ECU. The software gives me the U1601 - CAN network error.

What can I do to solve this?
Is there another software I can use?
Did I buy the correct interface?

Well I think I can solve the problem.

I bought one of these V1.4 OBD2 OBDII CAN-BUS Diagnostic Scanner Bluetooth: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

Last week and it would only connect to the engine management, the rest of the modules failed. Looking at the info on the Fiat ECU Scan page I discovered that by destroying resistor R4 on the board this should fix things, and bugger me it did!

All works fine now with no problems, bit of a fiddle killing the resistor though as its so small but you can cut it with a stanely knife or small watchmakers screwdriver.
