Hi, Who can help me with this issue. My car has been standing still for eight years. It took some investigating until it worked. We exchanged the ignition distributor and cleaned out the monotronic unit. But now my fiat panda 1000ie from 1988 keeps stalling when the engine is cold and I press the clutch because I have to wait until I can drive again. As soon as the engine stalls the battery light starts to burn. Starting the engine again is no problem. I also noticed that the engine sometimes suddenly starts to run more revs when it is idling. I hope someone can help me to fix the problem.

Any chance it is an air /vacuum leak, possibly brake servo if when you dip clutch and maybe press brake pedal? This would cause engine revs to fluctuate
Another thought , but hopefully not is if it only does it when clutch pedal pushed down, that can be caused by crankshaft thrust bearings being badly worn. This would usually show by excess end float in crank by pulling on crank pulley.
Older Datsun Cherries used to suffer from that in the past and a very long time ago I went out on a breakdown to a Humber Sceptre with what appeared to be a flat battery/duff starter, but on checking the engine had seized solid, caused by the "old school driving method" of the owner always starting with the clutch pedal down, which was done for when oil was really thick in the gearboxes causing drag so the starter would turn quicker.
On stripping the engine we found the crank had welded it's self to the engine block meaning the engine was scrap.
This is one reason why I hate the modern manufacturers idea of starting isolated until clutch pedal depressed at a time when no oil pressure to those bearings, totally stupid idea in my mind!.:mad:
 
So I tried. The clutch doesn't seem to be the problem. The engine stalls as soon as I step on the brake???
So a possible vacuum leak on servo.
Can you blank off the vacuum pipe at the inlet manifold to check?
I have never had it happen , but I understand it is not uncommon for older brake servos to rust through.
