General Engine part identification request

Hi all, I hope someone can advise me what this part of the bodywork /engine bay is. I have a 56 plate swift sundance 590pr on a fiat 2.3d ducato. Whilst examining under the engine i noticed the red painted part was very rusty. Have rust treated it and red oxide primed it, but it will need replacing at some point.
Does anyone know what it is called and can someone point me in the direction of a online manual or similar Haynes guide

The picture is of the front cross member, which is renowned for rusting through. A forum search for cross member replacement should yield some results, so that you can better assess the problem.

AFAIK no Haynes manual. Fiat eLearn is available as a download from this forum, and as Windows CD from Ebay or other sources. A lot of he eLearn content is available online from 4cardata (Russian) website here,

My post #3 above was made at rather a late hour, so I will now add a little.

I am no expert on registration plates versus year of registration, and with motorhomes the manufacturing and registration years may not be the same. However my x244 2.8JTD has a "56" plate, and was manufactured in 2006, which was a model changeover year.

The model number will be more usefull than the registration date when seeking technical information. The model number is the first three numbers of the VIN number, which will have the form ZFA244............, or ZFA250........, hence x244 or x250. The VIN number may be found on the VIN plate above the radiator, or in the registration document.

Thanks very much for all your help and links , I have identified the model 244 BSMAB AYC and engine version 2.3 JTD. and now know what I am looking for.

I have looked at both the EPER and Carddata websites , but unfortunately cannot find the section that refers to the front cross member or the removal process. I will search the forum shortly for more information.

Even though it says 94-02 (X230) it is still the same body shell as the X244 so should fit, doubt that Fiat would still stock these genuine anymore.
