Folks,

I have a 1.4SX FIAT BRAVO 98 and recently I noticed it missing, I have replaced the spark plugs and this doesn't seem to have solve the problem anyone got any ideas??

Missing at idle? Missing under acceleration? Missing at cruise? Missing totally? ;)

Re: Re: ENGINE MISSING

if you're engine is missing how the hell did you replace the spark plugs???

Re: Re: Re: Re: ENGINE MISSING

Kevin, I think he means MISFIRING, not the engine is missing literially!

LoL

Ian.

Re: Re: ENGINE MISSING

mines missing at idle tom. Ive not changed me plugs but they look fine - immaculute.

it thinking its maybe the dissy? what ya reckon?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: ENGINE MISSING

Ian - i know mate i was just trying to be funny! obviously my humour is wasted on you! :)

Re: Re: Re: ENGINE MISSING

Is it struggling to idle or does it just sound like its missing the odd beat?

Re: Re: Re: Re: ENGINE MISSING

just seems to miss the odd beat very slightly every 5-20 seconds.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: ENGINE MISSING

Do the revs drop or does it just sound like its missed a beat?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: ENGINE MISSING

the revs drop slighyly as well for every miss

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: ENGINE MISSING

when hot, cold, both?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: ENGINE MISSING

when hot/warm - when the engine is warm enough that the idle drops to the set point of 750.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: ENGINE MISSING

don't know if this is a symptom also but when i rev the engine then take me foot straight of the accelerator the revs drop well below 750 (maybe 550-600) then pick up again.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: ENGINE MISSING

Engine size?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: ENGINE MISSING

Its a honda 1.6 (1590) SOHC 115BHP from a rover coupe. To be honest i didn't notice there was anything wrong with the idle but my dad did. It does run like a dream and only takes 1/4sec to start.

I replaced:

-air filter with an induction kit
-oil
-fuel filter
-exhaust

everything looks sweet including the plugs.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: ENGINE MISSING

Its probably fine, at idle the plugs do occasionally get fouled with fuel and miss a beat but dry off before the next one.

As for the revs dropping, thats just the ECU reacting. When you put your foot down it will close the idle valve and then reopen it to keep the revs up after you take your foot off.

I'd not worry about it. My 1.6 bravo happily pops and misses every few seconds.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: ENGINE MISSING

do you run single thing (think its cathode) plugs.

maybe it would help us if we used those ones with 2,3 or even four.

like you say though its not that much of a problem, its just my dad was wanting to fix it. He's got a jag and doesn't know of any problems like this. My bro has got a citroen and his runs/ sounds like a bag of spanners and is 2 years old however we have given up with that car!

Fast though!

my mum has a yaris - damn its slow, runs perfect though... well it should as its only 3 years old.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: ENGINE MISSING

My 1.6 does run multi electrode plugs. Its the recomended plug type.

Big engines like the jag won't mind if 1 cly misses, a 4cly does. Live with it ;)
