General Engine management light on

HI All, i have 53plate stilo 1200 6sp, today i started the car to take my children to skool. My engine magament light came on. I have had no strange noises, faults or any thing, just this light lite up 2day for no reason.
Please help with any ideas.

Unfortunally were not mind readers so you really need to take it to a garage to get the error codes read.

There will be a reason, trick is to find out what reason, code needs to be read as T advises... this is common now on all new cars by the way...

Example... 02 plate Seat Ibiza 1.4 EML on, I bought an OBD code reader which told me Error 0030, the Oxygen sensor (in the exhaust manifold, row 1 bank 1) was faulty, engine ran fine if a bit thirsty but replacement cleared the fault, cancelled the EML via the Code reader and all is good now.

Fiat use their own particular system which is a shame...

I think what the old fella meant was most code readers only read generic codes while fiat have also their own which cane be read unless you smuggle me out that bloomin examiner you keep promising..

codes are standard except P1XXX codes which are manufacture specific.

Wanna put money on it T? Fiats wont even communicate with my reader... Seat does, and the Pug, I'll be checking others as and when.

what code reader you using, I use 2 different (ebay cheap) & work fine on Fiats. Its industry standard. Thought Seats though used VAG readers?

Yes vag and fiat code readers are poles apart..time for you to get one of those gendan scanners Ffoxy..me n u fall out that aint gonna happen in a month of sundays..

one code reader I got (et50 or mt50...cant remember) oftendisables the car when checking CAN network...couldn't start my own car once for 5 minutes

Been there she seemed fine it was the batery she'd do that a lot last winter.......put in a new battery and guess what no more error codes. I find that if your lickle 1.2 is well looked after like mine very lickle goes wrong.still though take it to a garage for diagnostics check
