Well, I would rather just get the car sorted regardless... sourcing a good engine would be nice... but, the evidence points to skimming, there's a good chance that it's just the gasket that is ****ed.

where's the M9?... really i wouldn't know what the differences are if someone threw them at me... I'm no technical wizard... but I can afford to pay someone who is ...mostly.

M9 is the engine code. BTW tried to call but no reply.

Looks like an engine isn't forthcomming quickly and Tony is having idea's about changing the head (which I'm not keen on) does anyone know if a 999 head will fit the 1.1 as I have a good one spare.

Don't quote me on this, but I'm sure I read that the 999cc, 1108cc and 1242cc (SPI) heads are the same. Only the 1242cc MPI head is different as it has bigger valves and (I think) different stud spacing for the inlet manifold.

So a 999cc head should fit and work with an 1108cc block without any problems.

You could try asking the members Oldschool and Smokeme, as they are both very clued up on the different types of FIRE engines.

Well, there seems to be plenty of possibilities... with the FIRE looking like a real modular heavyweight in many respects. I am very curious to know what the condition on the cylinder head is on the engine currently though...

Tony i am waiting to hear back from a former cinq owner who might be parting with his 1108 engine, early indications seem to be that he wants £100 for it. It did 62000 miles and had a new timing belt and head gasket (old one was fine) before becoming a sculpture in his kitchen :D.

I had read somewhere recently that the cinque has got hydraulic tappets,... i was wondering if the panda has also... if not... the why not?... and is there any benefit apart from maintenance?

TONY FOUND A full 1108 Punto engine for £80 :D :D

It's your money & your car, if you want it I'll pick it up this weekend and we'll fit it next.
sounds good... any idea which model it is?

Nope Just that it's a punto, not even sure of the year but it is an SPI 1108 engine the bloke said it was running spot on and only kept it cause it was so good, he had to get rid of lots of engines after visited by environmental lot but kept this one & it's been kept inside.

Also comes with starter, alt, etc although the Starter may not work with your flywheel.

Excellent, as for starters i have a couple... would be nice if it comes with a 55W alternator also ... Is the bloke down your neck of the woods?

Tony, if you pick it up, you can have my old alternator for £15 (was going to give it away, but i have had it reconditioned, which cost me £20)
Thanks for the offer Chris, I will have to see what'swhat next weekend before i say yes to anything... I was just thinking it might be useful to have a spare.

It's about 1 mile from my workplace. You will already have the alt & starter on your own car so they will be spares or you can e-bay them to recover costs if not right as spares.

Cheers Alan, it's an ideal find.

I just had a look at people that service auto gearboxs' ... more or less local firm http://www.theautomaticgearboxcompany.co.uk/pricelist/Fiat.htm the price for the panda for a new transmission is foolish money :)... the box is fine but it hates traffic ques... it sort or jars in between foot off the accellerator... don't know if Chris's is like that... but it's not ideal.

Tried an oil and filter change? I did one on Asbo (with the correct fiat oil and filter which cost about 80 quid all in and that's with my NIIMC discount:eek: ) and it made him much smoother in traffic.

As I re-call, you where supposed to change the oil very 30000 miles or 3 years of something like that...

Edit - just checked the handbook, 36 months and 45000Km....

Jim
