my 2004 ducato with 170,000 miles on clock has a random fault. as you drive along, the engine management light comes on, and the vehicle grinds to a halt. Switch ignition off and restart, and you can drive for several hours, days or weeks before it does it again. Or if unlucky it happens 7 times in 5 miles. The management system showed fuel pump pressure, air mass indicator, and random other sensors as the problem, then we renewed the injectors, and on each occasion any fault found was repaired, yet it still does it. Any ideas????

I had exactly the same problem on my 2008 Ducato. It turned out to be a faulty engine management chip which the manufacturer was aware of and put right as part of a factory recall. Sounds like, from your story, that the problem has existed for a while. I would ask your local dealer and see if there is any chance that Fiat will stump up for it.

problem resolved, new fuel pressure pump fitted, all other sensors done and air mass too. right as rain, £1200+ bill, local merc dealers, though main dealer no help at all.

Problem sorted great, but was it really all of those parts???

Epically unlucky if it was!

A good Bosch injection specialist should have done the same, but i reckon the bill would have been the same.

As for main dealers, they can usually change an oil filter.

yea quite a bill. the main dealers diagnosis was the same as my local merc commercial specialist. The local guy charged me less than the main dealer hourly rate, but in a way i think everyone involved was clutching at straws at firstas the fault changed each time the fault codes were cleared. It was only the expertise of a senior mechanic at a devon dealership who told us what to look for, and it worked. Slight problem this weekend, the engine management light came on and stayed on. I think i went over some violent speed humps and may have pulled a wire off, however it drives perfectly. I think the local guy was trying to keep my costs down by doing the cheaper options first based on his experience of the make
