Hi….I bought my 0.9l 105hp fiat 500 just over a week ago. However when I got the car home I discovered that the passenger door wouldn’t lock. It came with only the spare key so I bought a remote key from Timpsons and all seemed well until a few days later. Whilst I was driving the car after around 1 minute of starting/driving the car cut out (engine just stopped) and the Start/stop unavailable warning came up on the dashboard along with the amber engine light. A family friend managed to fix the door and get the car started again and the car seemed absolutely fine for another few days however today the same problem has occurred…Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks in advance for any help!

Hi and welcome
My first thought is take it back and ask for a refund, not the answer you're looking for.
Next would be return and ask them to resolve the issues, you need to act swiftly and provide a written statement to the seller assuming a trade dealer?
Ignore the stop start warning

Check the clutch pedal linkage to the start/stop sensor. It's common on these that the linkage breaks from the factory welds and throws start/stop errors and can also make the engine stop or the car to judder

Hi :)

Engine cutting out whilst being DRIVEN points to a fault..usually electrical

The engine stopping whilst stationary.. potentially with your foot on the brake points to a Stop:Start system intervention

Please tell us more :)

It could be the battery. How old is the car?

I remember when the battery died on the wife’s 500. She had followed me to a garage where I was having my Alfa tuned. Everything appeared fine and we got in the car and it wouldn’t start. Immediately, it felt like a flat battery, which was weird because we had driven for 25 minutes to get to the garage.

Luckily, we were at a garage and they had a jump pack and sure enough the car started with this connected. I then drove about 15’ and turned the steering and the car conked out again. Another jump and the same thing happened.

The battery had completely failed and just couldn’t hold a charge. Turning the steering was just too much of a drain. See everything is electrically assisted, including the power steering.

Get the current battery checked, it might have failed, or may even be the wrong type.

I

Not a problem
