That be your coolent bottle (engine cooling)

GET IT FILLED TO MAX ASAP.. as a tempory stop gap you can top it up with water BUT it should be refilled with the correct coolant mix ASAP

me thinks you have a water leak.....

possibly a leaking radiator (they are prone to leak round the edge)

or a hose (check between the radiator and the engine there is a clamp on the hose on the lower left on the engine as you stand in front of the car thats prone to leaking too...

or it could be the water pump


you should see a red/white crust where it is leaking

worst case it could be head gasket....

If the car is hot allow to cool before removing that cap!


Caution pressurised steam and burn / scalding risk

Halfords is very expensive for coolent unless you have a trade card..

once you find the leak and cure it i would do a full fluid change

Thanks lad I've just asked my stepdad to get some 'coolant' as I daren't go out in the car, I'll too it up and keep my eye on it.

make sure its red OAT based its not wise to mix coolent of different colours it can react and turn to jelly which as you can guess isn't good

Yeah I can imagine, I've asked him to get some 'pink coolant' haha

I do t know if this is connected but my steering is really creeky as though there's no lubrication, could this be related ?

Been told I need a new radiator, he said if I buy one he'll fit it for £15 for me. This seems quite good to me and he told me the rad would be about £70

steering sounds like a busted bed? probably your strut top mounts....

quite possibly,
scroll down the list to see if your year AND model is listed,

good idea to go on Euro/GSF with your reg too , to see what they charge,

make sure you do NOT need aircon / other options of RAD.

I have a 2008 1.4 8v I didn't know if the 8v would make a difference ?
And what is Euro/GSF ?
And I don't need A/C either

Ordered an EIS radiator, dunno if it's any good but for £55.80 and free delivery I thought I'd give that a try
