Technical EML /p2182/ engine thermostat not working

Hi
Looking for advice please.
Assume these are all link, so EML came on, the neighbour plugged in his machine for me, produced p2182 fault code. (I believe this is coolant temp sensor #2 fault) I’ve had new brake pads fitted so took it for a little test drive, noticed the needle on the engine thermostat did not move at all from the bottom (has always worked normally before) even after giving a little run up the motorway.
Any advice for where to start?

Perhaps with the coolant temp sensor?
If you have a multi meter you could check the wires going into it to make sure they are getting power
But most likely cause is a failed sensor
