Punto (Mk2/2b) ElliottMK2B 2004 Fiat Punto 1.2 8V Active Sport

Introduction

Hi guys, been reading these forums for a while now but never posted, and thanks for some great information so far!

Anyway now I've got myself a profile here is my Members Motors thread for my car.

It's a 2004 Fiat Punto 1.2 8V Active Sport. It has about 65K on the clock and full service history so it's great mechanically (touchwood :p) but the bodywork has some dents and scratches but nothing major. Nevertheless, in my book being mechanically sound will always come before looking good!

Mods so far are:
-Alpine headunit
-Aero wipers and new rear blade
-Pressed number plates

So at the moment not many mods but still thinking of stuff I'd like to do to the car!

Looking forward to being part of the community though and will definitely be going to all the events and meets within a reasonable distance! :slayer:

All comments are welcome and I'd appreciate some ideas or criticisms. :)

Thanks for looking! :D

Next is a Underseal - or having the dent on the front wing done up
or the scratch :)

It looks proper nice, but those tiny marks let it down

And Welcome to FF - and the mk2b owners - Who seem to be coming thick and fast!

Thanks mate, yeah the drivers side has seen better days but other idiots in car parks can't be avoided :( it's on my to do list getting it looked at and getting a price on sorting it

And could you please elaborate on the underseal?

Even though the Punto's are galvenised from new
Ie Metal treated so it wont rust

After a few years - the road will grit blast it away and rust / rot forms

If the Underside is solid now

It well worthwhile getting it Undercoated - it basically is another layer to stop rust getting in again

If there is any rust patchs - you clean it up - spray a few layers and it should be good for a few more years :)

Re: Elliott Gardiner - 2004 Fiat Punto 1.2 8V Active Sport

I see thanks for explaining! Is it something easy to do yourself? Or a specialist job?

Got a Trolley jack and some axle stands?
If so
A Washing up brush to clean the underside + water + Cleaner

Get it clean - treat any rust there - and spray on

Waxyoil from halfords is a possibility - i need todo mine, but its like everything, time

Re: Elliott Gardiner - 2004 Fiat Punto 1.2 8V Active Sport

I don't own a jack or stands but can borrow some easily, will definitely consider doing this now mate thanks for the heads up :)

And I know what you mean haha there's just not enough time! I'm always too tired after work and now it's getting darker earlier too! Just have to wait for a free weekend and might give it a go

I'd get it up first and have a look

the sooner you catch it the better - once rust starts, you can slow it down
But very hard to kill, unless you can acid bath it

All cars rot underside - its all about the roads

Re: Elliott Gardiner - 2004 Fiat Punto 1.2 8V Active Sport

well, havent really done anything over christmas period due to money shortages  oh well same for everyone i guess :) but have just ordered a debadged grill after seeing some other cars with them and thought they looked good!

and fk automotive have a sale on at the moment and the grills are selling for £7.50 (y) bargain!

also changed the alternator belt a few weeks ago as the old one started squeaking :bang: all nice and quiet again now though

Re: Elliott Gardiner - 2004 Fiat Punto 1.2 8V Active Sport

they are legal so i hear - that they let out enough light
However - be seen
I prefer clean bright lights that dont dazzle

So a clean lense - decent bulbs (like Ring Max or Orsam nightbreaker v2)
And tbh its amuch more worthwhile option

Re: Elliott Gardiner - 2004 Fiat Punto 1.2 8V Active Sport

At the moment I have some philips xtreme vision bulbs in which I think are great, so I guess I'll be taking a step back by putting fly eyes on which is another reason I'm undecided

Thanks for clarifying on the legality though I guess I'll have to have a think about it :)

Re: Elliott Gardiner - 2004 Fiat Punto 1.2 8V Active Sport

I personally think that the fly eyes only look good on the rear lights, I think they just look a bit out of place on the front, but a word of advice if you want to tint your rear lights I wouldn't suggest using fly eye because fly eye is a c**t to stick to the rear lights because of all the angles on the lights the vinyl creases, I would suggest getting a HID kit though, they look smart, and theyre not too expensive these days!

Re: Elliott Gardiner - 2004 Fiat Punto 1.2 8V Active Sport

Nice car mate, always wanted the sportier punto for my first car spent a fortune trying to make it look like a HGT, ruined it in the end lol. Dont get fly eyes, if they are done wrong they look gash, may mate put them on his ibiza very poorley granted just didnt look good looked liked mesh over the lights, and dont get HIDs youll blind every f*cker you see, and plod may do you! And £7.50 for a grille wtf thats awesome price! cost me £37 for mine on the grande!!!!!

Re: Elliott Gardiner - 2004 Fiat Punto 1.2 8V Active Sport

In all honesty keep it clean and standard, standard alloys standard lights, standard interior etc many times i see cars and think **** thats nice and its just a really clean car not modded in any way! you lower it perhaps and some sporting skirts but dont start messing with the wheels, they are really sort after alloys if i remember correctly

NO NO NO NO

Mk2b has reflector Headlight units - it'll scatter the light everywhere and blind people badly!
it'll fail the MOT due to poor light pattern and probably for brightness too!!

Do yourself the huge favour you've already done OP - fitting quality bulbs :)

I fully agree here Ziggy, the new bulbs have made a big difference and I can't recommend the philips xtreme vision bulbs enough (y) also I have heard good things about osram night breakers as mentioned in the thread earlier :)

Also I have decided against the fly eyes
