poor acceleration on lower end and rough idle is a couple, theres a lot in the Stilo section about EGR valves. Heres a guide how to clean it, its a Stilo 150 but its practically the same. https://www.fiatforum.com/stilo-guides/156040-1-9-multijet-150-egr-valve-removal-cleaning.html
maybe you could do a guide for the Marea if you decide to clean it.

Hmm, it idles fine its just that to pull away you have to give it a lot of revs, sometimes it seams worse than others. Acceleration seams fine.
when was the last time it was serviced.

When my EGR failed I had no power below 2,100 RPM & lost around 4 - 5 MPG, then above 2,100 RPM all came back in a huge rush... not good on wet / icy roads. Initially I had no dash warnings but eventually it did throw up an engine management light.

It must just be me then, its not lost any power, was serviced about 4 months ago,

Sorted the problem, the exhaust front pipe had a crack in it, now it's been replaced it pulls away normally again
