Hi, I was reading a thread not so long ago about EGR valve sticking open and causing the usual problems and somebody mentioned bringing in a fault code for it so the dealer will have to take it off and look at it as they usually wont do anything unless a fault is flagged up

The question is does anybody know how to bring it in, can you explain how to do it (pics always helpful) - is it just a case of disconnecting it then turning on the ignition , turn off reconnect ???

No its not that simple!

Also a dealership that solely relies on error codes is worth avoiding but on the other hand how are you so sure the EGR is at fault? if its not will you pay for it and labour? Removing a EGR and looking at it (unless mechanically damaged) will tell you nothing.

Afraid I dont see this point in all this or am I missing something here:confused:

the point is when it was taken in to the dealer, it wasnt showing because it had been driven for 40 mins before it was taken in and I dont want to be going in and out waiting for it to happen for what obviously is the same fault that virtually every 150 mjet sport and possibly every diesel in the fiat range has. so I thought if it had a fault code they would actually check it out instead of fobbing me off and telling me to bring it back if it happens again.

It is now getting bloody dangerous , especially in this weather when you pull out and lose all power and crawl out into a main road or roundabout, if I have an accident because of this I will consider legal action.

you've never visited a vauhall forum then;)

Take it to another dealer if your not happy.

AFM, boost sensor, overboost valve, wastegate.piping/hose damage can all cause the symptons you provide. First rule of diagnosis is 'never assume'.

Ours had no fault code, but dealer drove it and diagnosed the problem. Which dealer do you use? where in the grim north are you ;)

Ive got the tale wrong so it seems, the second time my wife took it in to the dealer after limping there in the morning before work - they apparently cleaned up the exhaust recycle valve as it was clogged up.

But this obviously hasnt done the trick as its just as bad, nothing till 2500 then woosh lots of smoke

Ps in stockton but not using wentane

The EGR (exhaust recycle valve, exhaust gas recirculation valve whatever you want to call it) is easily diagnosed however its not always 100% accurate (90% i'd say) and there is a fool proof diagnostic routine but this takes time!

I'm also against cleaning EGR valves, so you get them clean but is the operating rod totally straight? Remember we are talking mega hot exhaust gases constantly passing through this valve. For around £100 i'd change it every time.
