And if ever anyone coming down from North o the Border off the Fiat Forum ever want to spend a weekend in Shropshire around the Ironbridge Gorge let me know, free accomodation for a couple with enough advance warning(y)
 
If your planning on using the buses (Lothian Buses are the best) make yourself familiar with the routes as Princes Street is currently closed off due to the waste of public money that is the pointless trams project. Most bus stops in the city centre have electronic timetable signs so you know how long a wait you have for the next bus :)

If your travelling up the A1 then there's lots of wee places in East Lothian that are good for stopping off in. North Berwick has a nice beach (bit parky this time of the year) and a few shops to look around (nice ice creams).

Surely a contradiction? If I were Her Majesty, I'd be asking for a Council Tax rebate due to my view being despoiled by some crazy Spaniard's idea for a sieve! :D

ps Hope You and Mrs Ffoxy enjoy your visit, it's a fantastic city. Also spend lots of your English £s and keep us subsidised ;)

1) I am not a royalist.
2) I wont be dragged into subsidy debates :D

Its Mrs Ffoxys idea of a nice break, I'm just curious to see what haggis is really like. Oh and a dram or 2 of some decent single malts. less than 2 weeks to wait now! (y)

Noted thanks 30111987, we'll be stopping off at The Lakes en route then blast straight on in, you are right, Scottish beaches are parky at the best of times lol! :p

You could try the town of Leith if you had the time, it's a little confusing though. The residents claim it's a separate town even though it shares the Edinburgh postcode. There's a nice shopping mall with free parking (Ocean Terminal) and there's the possiblilty of the water of Leith walking route.

As mentioned earlier don't even think of entering the parliment building, it's the pits to be honest, you'd be better off trying arthur's seat just next to it or you could try the supposed, "Scottish," deep fried mars bar. How such a thing could be concieved is beyound me and I'm a native of this city.

Thanks for the advice Claymore, I guess shopping will be on her list of "must do's" but as little as poss for me! I already did the deep fried Mars bar (and a battered black pudding) :eek: in Gasgow a few years back! :yuck:
 
I think the short answer is that there is more to do in Edinburgh than you will find time for in three days, assuming you sleep/go to bed, nudge nudge.

Nobody mentioned Britannia yet. Moored in Leith.

Just enjoy
