For those too lazy to read back.......
disconnect the earth strap for 45 minutes +. (Most people do this overnight, but 45 minutes is the minimum time required, longer doesn't harm or help)
reconnect the earth then start the car, but DO NOT REV THE ENGINE. Allow the car to idle for 5 minutes.
Switch the engine off, then back on and drive NORMALLY (i.e dont thrash it for 50 miles)
Then drive how you normally would.
This resets all the positioning sensors back to factory default. The ECU will then learn the tolerances of the engine, fuel system and its settings.
The down side is you till have poor fuel economy until it has settles down.
FAQ
1. NO you should not need your radio security code
2. It will not upset you alarm/immobiliser
3. If the CODE light stays on your dash it is 99.9% likely that your battery needs replacing
4. The earth strap is the "-" one, OK!
