elo again guys....was just wondering ??? had a replacement engine put in me brava 1.6 elx twin!!! will i need a new ecu,or will it just recognise the different engine.still got a prob with it missing, and vibrates the car a bit when idle.sometimes dont u just wish cars were easier to work with:D
would appreciate the info thnx

if you fitted the exact same engine, then your ecu will be fine.

misfiring and a bad idle is almost always an injector fault on a 1.6, or coil pack failure, or HT lead problems. test for all 3 before you try anything else.

(y) thnx again for that jug......how can u test the coil pack???or is there any signs that would indicate failure, apart from bad idle lol
tony

coilpack failure will usually show 2 cylinders that are not firing.

to test the coil using a multimeter, measure the resistance between the HT output pins on coiled pairs. an HT outpout pin is where you connect an HT lead. a coiled pair is 2 output pins that share one coil. (ht outputs 1&4 are a pair, so are 2&3, they are numbered on the coilpack).

both tests should give a very similar resitance, if there's more that a 15% difference you can be fairly sure the coil has enough internal wear to cause uneven running.

a similar test can be done on the LT input pins (where wiring connector plugs in to coilpack). again measuring coiled pairs to check if they give similar results.

there are 3 pins on the coilpack once the connector is removed. measure resistance between the centre pin and the left pin, then the centre pin and the right pin.
