The rear window wiper and heated rear window (on my 2002 Seicento) circuit failed at the same time. Checking the Haynes manual, they seem to have the same earth point, but I can't locate it. The Haynes says it is 'LH Rear Panel'. The manual is, of course, for a Cinquecento, so I wonder if it is in a different place. Can someone direct me please to where this earth is for these two components?

Hello,

It seems there is no cable that goes from the rear door via a rubber hose into the chassis. The voltage goes through two connectors like that: (4 pin and 2 pin)

It should be quite easy to get from these connectors (and the other side ones) following the wiring to the ground point. I think the ground would be the 2nd cable from the left on the 4 pin connector. And the black one on the 2 pin connector (if it is separate)

Here's the location of the connectors on the door (red arrows):

So remove the carpet and follow the wires, you will surely find the ground on the left hand side corner.

If you remove the plastic cover marked with the green arrow, you should be able to inspect the wiring in the door itself.

From what I've found on the internet looking for those photos the most common problem with the rear wiper is rust on its axis. A seized motor could have caused some melted connectors, cables or fuses. Check if the contacts work as they should and clean them on both sides.

There are 6 pins in total.

1. common negative
2. positive wiper
3. positive break light
4. positive defrosting

There should also be some wiring for the central locking (if it is available on this door) and perhaps for the washer fluid (if there's a separate pump and not a fluid hose).

The 4 pins in the above post by @the green vanper when the boot lid is closed the pins make contact with these gold connectors in the rear panel as in the picture above, also make sure these contacts are clean as well as the pins, another cause could be the wiring behind these connectors, unscrew & remove the connector from the rear panel to check the condition of the wiring as it has been known where the wiring connects to the connector to either have a snapped wire, corroded or even burnt out as in a Miller Corner video on YouTube

On my old cinq sporting,
it was the plunger of those contacts (for the High stress of the Rear window heater element)

At the time it was easy to get a used replacement, but very worthwhile searching for parts now.

Photo hosting..

Quick and easy here on the forum

Lots of old threads on here made spectacularly ineffective due to all the dead Photobucket links

I found the cause. No fuse was burnt out, which surprised me, but then my electrical know-how is limited.
So, as per your comments, could a seized motor be the root cause of this? I obviously don't want to replace the wiring to the contacts for it to burn out again.

Possibly..

Is that the wiper motors supply..?
I don't know, and I'm not sure how to check. I can't find any wiring diagram, but I have a multimeter so I could check current flows/resistenace.
But, the heated window stopped working simultaneously. Do they run off the same boot contact? I don't trust the Haynes as it is for the Cinq. but then as I've said, I'm not so hot as an auto electrician.

You can simply have a look at the wiring in the door after removing the black plastic cover, you shall have better access and view.

If not, a multimeter to check the passing between the contact and the receiver (wiper motor) terminals will do the job.
