I have a 2006 Panda duologic 1.2, it (hopefully) will be a birthday present for my granddaughter on her 17th birthday, it runs sweetly , in auto mode though it is fine for maybe 10 miles then it will change down but will not change up, you have to use the gearstick to do so, it changes well in manual, I read somewhere that it could be low actuator fluid, so ordered some, removed battery, battery tray, electric fan, then the heat shield , and sure enough the level was about 30-40mm below the green line, so topped it up, put it all back together and took it for a drive, still the same after about 10 miles, anyone got any ideas on what I can do ? Apart from scrap it !
Many thanks in advance

Are you near stoke on Trent?
Which fluid did you top it up with?
How many miles has it covered?
Maybe grand daughter said learn to drive in a manual gearbox first if she learns in an auto her license will only allow her to drive autos

There is specialist garage in stoke on Trent with a reputation on knowing how to fix these.
If never had new clutch it's possible it could be cheap fix
Wonderful you used correct fluid 10/10

Shrewsbury, so not far away.
92000 miles
Tutela cs speed fluid
Is there some one or something in Stoke that might be able to help then ? I'm willing to drive over. Or do you know of a possible solution to the problem

Hopefully someone will remember name of garage and let you know.
Then book it in with them for diagnostic inspection and quote to fix- you will have to pay for this but only then will you know .

Let me see if I can find some tests

Wrote some down awhile back

Also where the fluid level should be when pressured

It should not be at the max mark unless it's been depressurised

Over filling can cause further problems

I just found the guy in Stoke on Trent, CD motors Staffordshire, spoke to him on the phone, he guarantees that he can fix it but can't do it for another month

Here the top up procedure

It should be at minimum if you prime the system by opening the car door

Help if you had some diagnostic software

And connect to the body computer

Then check the brake switch

The brake switch has two sets of contacts, one runs the lights the other is mainly for the dialogic and cruise control if fitted

It's a common fail point, from memory if it's faulty it disables manual control to the dialogic

Off out now,.will check latter

Yes that's the guy
Please update us as to your experience when you go

Disconnect the multipin connector on top of the gearbox and spray the contacts, front and back, with contact cleaner, same for the connector on the clutch disc speed sensor at the rear of the gearbox.
There's also an earth point on the nsf chassis leg which I believe is the earth for the dualogic harness.

Dodgy brake light switch? It does a lot more than disabling the manual control - it turns the car off whilst in motion!

Seeing as it works in manual mode your can pretty much rule out a hydraulic fault

Clutch and so on

It almost certainly an electrical fault

Diagnostic software is the best cause of action

Intermittent brake switch is common

As is the earth connector in the rear light cluster

If it is electrical fault why does it work ok when cold but when it warms up stops working in auto ?

If it's intermittent

It will work untill the error is flagged

Did you read the link

Theirs fails intermittently in auto changing up

But carries on worksng okay in manual

That does not mean yours is definitely this

The fact yours works in manual mode means the hydraulics and mechanics.are almost certainly okay, it's the exactly the same hydraulics, gearbox and clutch used for both modes

I have a thinkcar 689bt diagnostic tool, I will connect it and see what fault codes come up. If it works on fiats, as I understand you can need special software, thanks for the information!

I have just been looking up multiecuscan software and connecting leads, but such a choice, any you would recommend ?

Never used it

As long as it connects to the engine, transmission and body computer

I doubt multiecusan will add anything to the party
