Hello

I have a fiat ducato 2.8 jtd 2002 camper van. I have 'nt used it for a couple of years but have started it regularly until it ran out of diesel, refilled it but now it won't start. any ideas? I live in the pyrenees with no access to technical help, their all peugots!

thanks for any advice

First things first..

Is the immobiliser light coming on when you turn the key to MAR and then going off after a second or two?

Can you hear the lift pump in the tank running when you turn the key to MAR? If you leave the key at MAR it should run for approx 20 seconds. If its not running check/reset the inertia switch on the firewall behind the battery. Its very common to bang it when inserting/removing the battery.

The engine needs to turn over at about 250-300rpm to generate enough pressure for the ECU to start injection. You need a good charged battery to start if it sounds like its turning over slowly you're wasting your time.

Lastly the high pressure pump and injectors are under enormous pressure and rely on the lubrication of the diesel, if you ran it dry you may have caused damage.
