Hi guys, I'm new to the forum so be gentle.
Driving home in my ducato tonight, the idle speed increased to 20,000 revs. Made it tricky for town driving. By the time I made it home the engine speed was going up and down like a yo yo. I plan to check out the crank sensor tomorrow (source of previous trouble) I wondered if anyone else has an idea?
Its a 2004 2litre petrol. Yes petrol thats why I need to slow the idle down., its costing a fortune a traffic lights.
Any help would be appreciated

If you mean 20k rpm. STOP DRIVING..!!

WE really need more info. Does it behave normally when cold?

Sorry Charlie had a beer to get over my frustration. Of course2,000revs at idle.
I replaced the step motor not so long ago and just in front of it is a yellow colored sensor the I take to be for fuel mixture?
I was a mechanic in the days of ford cortinas. All this electronic stuff leaves me cold.
Driving back through the city the van would only idle at the 2,000 reves. quite disconcerting when youre slowing down. By the time I arrived home it was accelerating and decelerating wildly. Have not had time tolook at it yet as busy with work, but I thought I'd check the crank sensor.
Thanks for responding

I'm not familiar with the 2.0 petrol( may not be a FIAT engine)

often you need to do a "relearn" if you change electronically driven parts.. so the ECU can get things all talking again.:)

SEARCH "phonic wheel relearn";)
