Started my motor home up today to take for its mot and service...and the speedometer and rev counter were not working. I already knew the engine temp stopped working a couple of weeks ago and was going to mention it at service. However the garage can't fix this, need to take it to another garage. Can someone please advise on the issue? Fuse? Wiring? It's a 2008 3.0 ltr Ducato. I'd like to add that engine warning light, seat belt warning light etc all light up on engine start. No ghost lighting. Just no speedometer/rev/engine temp.

Long shot, but I assume you haven't got anything plugged into the odb port (behind the fuese panel that's next to your right knee)?

I found recently that my odb scanner would cause the rev counter not to work when it was powered on - didn't try the speedometer as I wasn't moving.

I assumed it interfered with the CAN bus somehow

Ive got the same problem , any fresh ideas to what the problem might be . Thanks

This may be of some help. Ignore several of the posts but the OP 'pyrie' did eventually solve the problem by having the display 'repaired' by a specialist but it later reappeared. The repairer said "Unfortunately if you leave these vehicles standing for long periods of time the motors that control the needles seize." See the final post where he fixed it himself by flicking the needles.

I had the issue with speedometer not working, I thought it was the ABS sensor but that didn't make sense as there was no ABS fault light on (the multijet versions definitely take the speed reading from the ABS system and not a separate sensor as some of the earlier versions did) . I stripped out the instrument panel and gave the needle a bit of a nudge back and forth and it sorted it.

Drove it for quite a while before laying it up for these blasted lockdowns and when I started it up today have no fuel gauge, temp gauge, speedometer or rev counter.

Logic suggests that it is something common to all the gauges so I will set to and investigate again :( :(

Just stripped out the instrument panel, gave all four analogue gauge needles a good working backwards and forwards and hey presto! All working again!!

I wonder just how many people have been ripped off for a new ECU when they have had this issue??

Simple to access, just 4 screws to take out using a 25 size Torx driver, the first two aren't that obvious, one up under the upper corner of each side of the panel cover.

Once they are removed lift the grey panel from the back (2 spring clips there so you need to pull on it a bit)

That leaves the instrument cluster held in by 2 more screws at the rear of the panel vertically positioned into the mounting plate. Take those out then disconnect the multi way connector.

You now need to carefully pry apart the snap fittings around the edge of the instrument cover the when the covers are in two pieces lift out the centre piece.

The needles are now accessible so gently give them a wiggle through the normal operating range, leaving them roughly where they should be with ignition switched off.

Plug it back in and give it a try before putting it all back together in reverse order to the dismantling process.

Many thanks Ducatiman! I had the same trouble when I started my 130 Ducati 2008 after winter. Just as you insructed everything worked properly again. Saved me about 400 EURO and a lot of time for repair and freight.
Thanks again!
