Technical Ducato engine number

Hi All
If anyone is having a problem finding the hidden engine number like I did on my 1999 Ducato 2.8 It was only after I removed the alternator and found the number etched on the cylinder block. I found it almost impossible to read, I took a photo and managed to read it from my computer.
The number 8140.43 on the white label on top of the engine is the type of engine, and not the actual engine number

I know this is an old thread, but for any who may come searching, the engine number is on the label stuck to the engine cover.
The number following "Matricola" matches the engine number on my vehicle.

I know on the Iveco Dailys the Vin plate on the bonnet slam panel also has the engine type, along with weight details, does the Ducato have similar?

Yes, type, but not engine number.
