Technical Door lock

Door seemed to not want to shut, as if it was banging against something. Nothing was obstructing it and I had to force it shut. I then tried to lock it and it just wouldnt budge, so I forced it and something snapped inside.. Have to lock it from the other side now. What could it be?

I don't think it is. The button goes down fine and dandy when it is locked from the other side. I took the door panel off and found a bit of snapped white plastic which I suspect was encasing the lock. Any more help would be appreciated as this problem is far from solved.
