Can anyone recommend a good grease and where to get it from? My door hinges creak really badly when I open them and I've tried WD 40 but have had no luck in curing it.

I don't really know what other products to use It's dam embarrassing when people get into the car!

In thoughts and help appreciated.

Cheers

Re: Re: Door hinges sqeak

WD40 is not at all suitable, it will wash the grease out.

You need a calcium/lime based grease for door hinges.

WD40 is EVIL! It should be banned! Its responsible for more damge to mechanical equipment than any other single product in the history of man. The only thing its good for is cleaning hedge clippers.

Re: Re: Re: Door hinges sqeak

It's not a cracking noise as I though about the hinge pins. It's on all door.

Tom - can you recommend a product?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Door hinges sqeak

last time i was at my local garage i bought a tin of grease of them for £5 it is a large tin and is the stuff they use. halfords proabibly sell something similar for triple the price.

and yeah listen to tom wd40 is evil ! i knew someone once who used to spray there engine basy with it every month to "keep everything running smoothly" ohh what a bad idea that was, lol

i am sure someone mentioned a while ago that vaseline can be used on non mechanical parts such as hinges etc and because it is silicon based it wont wash away very easily. might be worth a try in the short term

You wont find anything better than copper-slip.

Any motor-factors should sell it!

mind did the same (craking noise). i went to see my mate at fiat, and he adjusted something in the top hinge of the door. i think you need a 6mm or 7mm alankey?.

Thanks I'll take a run down to the local car shop and try and get some auto grease. Thanks for the tip on WD40! I didn't know that and I'll note itfor the future!

mate, u dont need wd40, u need an allen key like suggested above, it takes about 3 mins to do,

open ya door

there should be a little rubber bung near the hinge, take it out, and theres a little bolt looking thing, simply tighten it up, wallah! problem solved, its a well known bravo fault, its also on the bravo guide with pics i think

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Door hinges sqeak

also to add it aint the actual hinge, it's the mechanism that prevents the door from closing by it's self!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Door hinges sqeak

i think we are getting there.....lol
