Hey TS86, you must know the same stretch of the M1 that I do!
Northbound between Junction 4 and 5 (Watford turn off) is a great place to thrash a Uno. There's that long down hill bit before it bends to the right. I've managed to hit over 100mph on my 999cc Uno there!
Oh yeah! I don't often floor it there 'cos I get on at Junction 4, so my Uno is usually just warming up.
However, my top speed test was done on that bit with a "run up" from Brent Cross. My GPS speed device said I reached 105mph. I'm convinced I could have gone further, but I had to brake due to the Middle-Lane-Hoggers Club :bang:
You might want to try A41 too. Maybe a bit more dangerous, but the roundabouts have loads of space on them. At times of low traffic you can take the whole thing on full throttle in 2nd. Just not in the wet!!
You probably fill up petrol at Dome roundabout, yeah?
As for getting overtaken, I don't have that happen so much on motorways. So many Police and cameras around London, and as my Uno cruises quite happily at 80mph not many people dare drive faster.
I don't see a problem with overtaking as long as it's done correctly, safely etc. If people are in a hurry then let them be.
Is that an indicated 80mph cruise or accurate (GPS or similar)? My speedo over reads by about 5mph after indicated 60. After an indicated 75 it waves around. Doesn't feel stable and not a comfortable ride.
I love thrashing my Uno and keeping up or overtaking modern cars. My old thing probably cost less than one of their tyres!
Me too, especially round bends. Ok, I don't have an anti-roll bar (wish I did) or low/stiff suspension, but you can feel everything of the road. It also means you can be on a NSL road at the speed limit and still have loads of fun 'cos the car is still on its limits!
I just love the idea of back to original/basic mechanics. The Uno (like many "old" cars) is literrally just pedals, steering wheel and a seat. It's so important for new drivers. I've learnt more about car control in the first 2 months of driving my Uno, than the whole time of driving (about 20months now).
That's a reason why I miss driving the Marea so much - powerful enough with the only thing electronic was the ECU fuel injection.
Thrashing the Uno for too long causes some funny stiffnesses in the gearbox though..lol
