Hi,
Handbrake snapped, I got new cables but I am in need of some guidance on how to swap it!
Got all the tools and mechanically minded, but need a some prompting on what I should be doing and looking out for.
Done the job many times on Doblos.
Remove plastic around handbrake lever to back off adjuster and release that end of cables and push the outers back to free them off from the holes/guides they sit in.
Then jack up and support safely back of vehicle, both wheels and brake drums off (all my Doblos have drums rear) undo any handbrake cable supports, then you should be able to use a screwdriver to move the handbrake lever inside the drum to a position where you can unhook the cable ends, then push the outers from the drum, slide new cables in and engage them in the levers, make sure the outer is firmly in place in the brake back plate, fit the cables in their mountings and through the holes into vehicle , inside car engage the cable ends into the hand brake adjuster bar, checking that cable outers are fully into the sockets and that handbrake adjustment is backed right off.
Next assuming the self adjusting inside the brake drums hasn't clicked up stopping drums going on (usually only if you have worked the handbrake lever inside the drum too much when fitting cables) assuming drum slides on easily, personally I manually adjust the self adjusters so drums just slide on after centralising, work the footbrake and handbrake a feqw times to make sure everything is free/not binding, then manually adjust handbrake at lever end inside the vehicle to your satisfaction and not binding.
Reassemble vehicle , roadtest using foot and handbrake then check again nothing binding or one drum/wheel feeling warmer than the other, if all good and rolling freely refit handbrake cover inside vehicle and buy me an imaginery pint.
