If that watch was made in the '20s or '30s I would say that they were given to buyers of an entirely different kind of FIATs than today's cars.

But then they aren't the only mass car manufacturer that used to make upmarket cars.

In the early '90's, Renault gave a cheap plastic watch away to anyone who'd bought a new car recently. IIRC they sent you the box & you had to go down to your local dealer to collect the watch. I've still got mine packed away somewhere.

The following year, they did the same thing with a CD.

Vaguely remember these, I have one somewhere as my dad bought a new 19 in 94.
