jim, you're very fussy with what you get. You need to calm down a bit. Honestly, you should be happy they're giving you a car at all. I know a lot of dealers who wouldnt bother with a courtesy car. After all, it's not even your car. Do you complain when your friend lends you his/her car and its not up to scratch?

There is a software update for this fault. But this should of been done by importer at the docks. As for the dealer has he arranged a booking at your convience. And if you find you still have issues, you can all ways contact customer services at fiat uk.
As for the valete, you should of recieved a PDI sheet detailing a tick sheet. And one of the boxes is removal of transport protection. A little ear bending is needed.
And your warrenty is a pan european warrenty. So go were you want within the Fiat network.

ref the software update- which fault does this concern?....my stop start goes into the garage today to look at stop start intermittent warning light coming on, system not working.

Why should we be happy with a car worth less than what we paid for? A new car is paid for, and we get a second-hand car that we don't like. Why should we be happy with that?

I'm very puzzled by your comments. Are you saying that if you personally were to buy a brand new car and it gets taken away again, that you should be happy with whatever you get?

That's like saying that it's fair to pay full price for a new car. and then the dealer doens't have to give you that car, just any old cheap car that they have spare instead. ...coz that's what happened from the consumer's point of view.

You make it sound like they're giving us something for nothing. A courtesy car is not free, there's always somebody paying for it, wether it be the dealer to keep your custom, or it gets claimed on the original car's warranty.

If a friend were to break my brand new car and then lend me his crappy old car, I would not be happy then either.

An update...

Got the car back today. Whilst "fixing" the problem, they also stopped the passenger side window switch from working. We had to wait another half hour while they take it back inside and fix that. Also, they didn't actually fix the problem with the warning lights, as they came back on again already, just half hour after taking it away!

:bang:

When you get a courtesy car it is never guaranteed to be as good a car as the one you're taking in.

Do you think someone with an Enzo gets peeved when they take it in for a service and they get a lowly 355 for the day? Hell no! They've got wheels and they're mobile for the day and as long as it doesn't smell like someone chucked up in it or died then it's all good.

Your dealer hasn't replaced your car with a crappier one, they just lent you a slighty less nice one whilst yours was getting fixed.

Personally with the attitude you're showing I wouldn't have given you a courtesy car at all if it were me making the decisions. Someone will come out of the woodwork and tell me how much of a horrible person I am but you really do need to get a grip and realise that as long as they're not sending you out in an old Uno with the passengerside floor missing that the dealership is doing their bit for you.

Contrary to what I've said above I do still feel sorry for you though, you've paid a lot of money for a car that's not working as it should.

Personally I would never reccomend being the first to try something like Start&Stop or even the new SGE which should be out next year, leave the testing up to someone else next time.

Just be patient and give the dealer time to sort the issue out and if you continue to have grief then escalate it to Fiat and see what they can do to get the issue sorted for you.

You might think I don't care or something but I honestly do hope you get your car working as it should do because the 500 really is a nice car.

That's probably the most frustrating thing about the situation. We took the OH's old car (which could only just be described as a car) in to be scrapped on the scrappage scheme, and it was to be replaced with a cutesy car that had all the bells and whistles. We had it for a day, and then it was taken away again.

Kinda like winning the lottery and being given a suitcase of money, and then shortly having it taken away with a "sorry, the money's not quite ready".

Not much I can say really. if it's any comfort your dealer is probably not happy about the situation either, they don't want an annoyed customer with a car that's not as it should be......

Any way what are they doing messing with the passenger switch. Was it marked ????.
Stop start fault..........
If they had done the control unit program correctly. They should of or needed to go on a pre set learning drive cycle to allow the control unit to relearn.
Just think of the car ecu its just been hit around the head and forced feed so it will lost it memory of past the road. So it will spit its dummy when it see's a standard drive cycle.
So you need to see the DET of the dealership to get it fixed correctly

Well I guess we're doing the general public a favour then, by being Fiat's guinea pigs.

But seriously, we expressed that concern to the dealer, and they assured us that the start 'n' stop mechanism has been used for years, and has been well tested. Admittidly, it wasn't the same dealer we bought the car from...

Again some do-gooder is going to come along and say I'm horrible..... but in hindsight you probably see it yourself that listening to a salesperson is probably not the best idea.

I went to a dealer about a year ago to test a Panda 100hp and the salesman said it had "nice 16" alloys" and when I corrected him and politely said "they're actually 15's" he refused to listen to me. Proof if ever that salespeople don't necessarily know their product and that's something easy like tyres, I wouldn't believe anything a salesman says about the oily bits of a car. Another example of a dealer spouting rubbish was the Alfa dealer who said that the Mito wouldn't be getting the Multi-air engines for at least a couple of years when I visited in March.

What's DET?

A DET stands for DEALER EXPERT TECHNICIAN. All fiat Fiat dealers will have one TEC how has trained to DET standard to all level. NVQ3
He is automatically invited to all product launches and yearly update.
And some even get to see factories in Italy and Poland.
He is the only one allowed to Open Teseo case on a problem car.
:worship:TESEO is the technicial department for Fiat Uk how access to Fiat main data dase.:slayer:

That why you are best looking at the car yor self and talking to the grease monkey.

Sales are good at giving you what YOU want to hear and nether corrected, unless they see a sale...

You do realise that no where in your contract with the purchase of the car does it state that the dealer MUST give you a car of the same value for a courtesy car. Nor does it say the dealer has to give you a courtesy car to begin with. Tbh, i agee with 306maxi. If i were the dealer, i probably wouldnt have given you one. It was nice of the dealer to give you a car in the first place, but when you go crapping on about how its not good enough i dont see your argument. Do you complain when the seats are not comfortable in the waiting area of the Fiat Service too? Not like home where you've paid good money? Seriously man, you're acting like a child. And when you say someone pays for it, yer the dealer in this case? And do you think the dealer would fork out top dollar to have you satisfied? 1 of the many customers? I can assure you they'd rather spend the money elsewhere, such as fixing your car as soon as possible.

The dealer gave you a car in response to a warranty claim. Not as a trade. You make it sound as if they've given you a completely different car...

Listen i dont want to start a war here, but you just have be a bit more realistic. Sorry if ive offended you in anyway, but i thought it was worth mentioning.
