Hi all,

My Stilo 115 JTD Multiwagon is playing up and really need to solve it quick as it's been going on for a nearly a fortnight. :(

It's down on power a little under full acceleration and the turbo 'kick' dies around 2.8-3K revs instead of near 4K like it used to.

Not only that, but when trying to keep a level speed while cruising I get what feels like a 'popping' misfire like you would get from a petrol car..! When I get this, it feels a little 'jerky' and the amount of black, sooty smoke coming from the exhaust is crazy! I've no doubt it's probably illegal too.

Before it started to 'misfire', it used to power surge instead. You could hear the turbo spool up and down, and the car would accelerate and decelerate even though the pedal isn't moved.

I've taken it to my friend's garage and put it on the Diagnostic machine and the only code was: P0235 - Boost Pressure.

I really need to get this sorted asap as I've only got Friday and Saturday to fix it. Can someone help?

If there's more than one thing to check please tell me which order to check things to save some cash.

Thanks in advance.

Cleaning the EGR valve improves this problem a lot, but never completly gets rid of it. Quite a few of us (including me) have it on JTD's and no one has managed to totally cure it yet.

i would go along with john55, definitely start with the egr valve.

i haven't done any work on it (as not technical myself!) but when i went to look at a jtd to buy with a mate, he said about really giving it some on the throttle to see if any black smoke comes out. and this would most likely be a dodgy egr valve so could haggle them down!

It only blows the black smoke when trying to keep the car cruising at a level speed (i.e. pedal kept in same position while cruising).

While accelerating there is no smoke at all and the car feels better but not as good as it used to be.

John55 - could it be a combination of the EGR, the overboost sensor and the actuator rod being stiff? If you don't mind me asking, what have you done to remedy the problem so far?
