Well ive taken it to get fixed, the dude said i needed a new HDD as he looked in bios and it said there wasn't one.

he later rang me and said that the HDD is working as he tried to retrieve some of my work so is running some sort of programme to correct stuff or something, so i dont need a new hard drive anymore. Wooooooooo.

hopefully i wont break it again

cost 45 but it works again. now im stuck with no internet. says somesort of problem gives me code 10 but i dunno wot tht is its a linksys card if that helps. i have to use the wii to access ff takes ages typing grrr.

ok, well first of all decribe your internet setup and we'll see what we can do from there.
Im assuming since your using the wii on the net, both the pc and the wii are connected to the net via a router>modem?
Is it a wireless or wired link to the pc? is the wii wired or wireless?

its a wireless link using a 2.4ghz linksys router and a wireless b notebook adapter. also from linksys.

when installed it says device cannot start (code 10). ive tried rebooting after install but nothing
tried uninstall then reinstall but nothing again

Thats a USB interface problem rather than a networking problem. Try the adaptor in another pc (or a friends) and see if it works on that. If it doesn't chances are the adaptors is knackered, but moe likely if it works, its a USB config problem.

Chances are its the wrong drivers for the USB controller. Do other devices work OK in the USB port? If not, what is the model of the PC? I will try get you the correct drivers

well he tried what i did, and he tried to instal windows again but decided its a registry problem, so is going to format the laptop fully to try and fix it

seems a bit over the top. if it was a registry problem, a driver update should have overwritten the config. anyway hope the reformat sorts it for you let us know how it goes

tried a driver update, but said its a registry fault that wont allow driver update.

pfft, im just letting them fix it, although when ive been in to see if it's done the bloke always seems to have gone out.

Scrap that, im now the happiest chappy in the world.

finally got it working, the port is broken so they giv me a usb adapter thingy for free, shame it only took a week to get sorted
