Anyone have any views? I am no believer in the portence of doom but the program was interesting and backed up by Scientific evidence.

This date, apparently, is when some planetary / universe alignment happens, every 25,000 years or so. Proven scientifically by changes in the polarity of the earths magnetism on the sea-beds.

What happens is the outside skin of the earth slips due to combined universal inter-galactical gravity, causing mayhem on earth. The North and South Poles swap around or move in some catastrophic way.

So the Mayans, the Chinese and several other ancient civilisations as well as a guy called Merlin (remember him from Camelot days) he was actually an ancient Welsh soothsayer or whatever its called, anyhow, they all have Dec21st 2012 as the day the earth changes again forever.

Not the end of the world but a seriously bad time for all. Global Warming?

The only thing that suggested the end was nigh at the end of the last millenium were the prices greedy clubs/ pubs were trying to charge for New Years Eve tickets...

Lol good angle 1986Uno! There was no scientific evidence to back up Nostradamus though, mainly a "turn of the millenium" thingymabob.

Your right of course, it does depend on which calendar we live by, but odd how civilisations so far apart geographically and historically arrived at such a conclusion all the same!

If you're a gambling man then surely you will have noticed the problem with your bet.

Who is going to bet against you?

If the world doesn't end they'll have to pay out... if it does end... well there won't be any you, them or money so no worry.

I do remember something on telly a few years ago about the earth's magnetic field changing ends every few thousand years and that they thought we were due a change now

i've seen about that before, can tell in the layers of rock, the way it all lines up. seems to shift often, and short of confusing a lot of compasses and sending birds north instead of south for winter *shrug*

Its a scientific galactic alignment that has happened many times in the past, just way beyond living memory, its a regular event is what the program was about, and its due soon... We may survive but things will change... thats if you believe it at all!

the question would be for how long surely?

if it happens for 5 minutes then i seriously doubt it would effect thing, but as you mention, you can tell from the rock layers.... what happens to the rocks in this time? presumibly they shift in the opposite direction?
