Not sure.
I heard a sort of crunching noise a couple of hours earlier, but there was no problem with the running of the engine - if the engine had siezed then it would have done so then I think. And the crunch actually sounded like I'd driven over something, so it was outside of the engine. It was a similar sound later on when it died, so I reckon it had part broken earlier on...

But normally the only load on that pulley is compressing one or two valve springs. It is more than robust enough for that. There must have been a huge rotational load placed on it to shear all six spokes in that way...

It's all over my head..

Off to find a new car tomorrow. Seen another Stilo exactly the same spec as Chicken, but I don't think I dare, or that the wife will let me...

Well, went to have a look... the Stilo for sale was the same model as Chicken, minus the sky window and lower miles... in fact almost exactly the same as Chicken was when I bought him two years ago. But it just looked tired and scruffy, like it has been used, not owned, if you see what I mean. I doubt I could ever have been happy in it. Anyhow, chicken's auction on eBay ends today, and with it will go my Fiatforum activity. Bought myself a 407 sw 1.6hdi.

Thanks to everyone on here for support advice and assistance over the past couple of years. Enjoyed owning my Stilo, shame it had to end this way on the back of a truck.

Well, he's been sold... off to Scotland, and the buyer has an engine lined up to fit, so at least he'll still live on for a few more years.

How much did you get out of interest?

£360. Which just about covered the deposit for my new car, so at least I'm not out of pocket short term.
Didn't go to the guy who had asked me loads of questions over the past few days though. The buyer has promised to send photos of the repair and it being back on the road....

Well, he's gone... off on the back of a flatbed.

So that's my dally with Stilos over - thanks for all the advice and assistance over the past couple of years. Bye.

PS: I have a VAGCom usb lead, adapter set (never used) and ecuscan software if anyone wants to make me an offer, DM me.
