Hi everyone

I've got a problem on fiat stilo 1.6 3dr. The car stayed on parkplace for few months and the battery drained out. When the battery went off we couldn't open any doors even with seeing that the knob goes up. Later we managed to open front boot and charged battery to full but we stil couldn't open any doors. I've remembered you can open windows with key and i've managed to open later from inside handles. so the trouble currently is that outer handles doesn't work but inside does (even if i press the unlock / lock on the panel) and i've also puted batery out for few hours so the ecu would reset but it didn't work. Also i can't start the car but it has electricity. Anyone got any advice what to do ?

Thank you for your help and sorry for my english as i'm from Slovenia :) greetings.

Do you lock it using the deadlocks? The deadlocks get activated when you press the "lock" button on the remote control twice.

If the deadlocks are activated okay but not releasing then it could be an electrical problem (the Central Locking isn't activating) or the car thinks someone is trying to steal it and it's resisting (particularly since it also doesn't start).

But... I can tell you're a young lad. :D Let's start "analogue" before we go all hi-tech.

Can you unlock the car from the outside and open the door, using the key? You do know you can unlock the door with the key, right? :D

Lock the car using the fob, leave it for 15 seconds to get all cosy and then unlock the car using the key. Does the deadlock release, so you can open the door? If "yes".. then try to start the car. If "no".... then the locks are seized up. The key must be able to open them.

If you can open the door with the key then you must be able to lock it using the key. Do that a few times and see that the locks are working properly. You don't even need a battery to do this, although with no battery, only the door you are locking or unlocking will be affected (Central Locking needs the battery to lock/unlock all the other doors).

Once the key works, try the fob... lock and unlock. Just use a single press to start with, so the deadlocks are not engaged. Once that's fine, try a double-press to activate the deadlocks.

If the deadlocks engage but do not release, and the car still doesn't start then the car might have "lost" the immobilisor keycode stored on the immobilisor chip of the Body Control Module.

It can get corrupted by very low/long time discharged batteries (disconnect the battery if the car is going to be idle a very long time) so it doesn't recognise the signal from the key.

You'll need to get someone with diagnostic equipment to re-program your key to the immobilisor. Your Fiat dealer should be able to do it but you would have to take the car there somehow. Otherwise there may be auto electricians or locksmiths who have the equipment. Needing to re-program keys is quite a normal problem these days.

I don't know if it's possible to do it yourself with the right tools/techniques... but someone might know how to do it.
