The Flying Chicken packed in on me last night in Sainsbury's car park. Made a rattling noise then died. It had made a similar noise a couple of hours earlier.
Anyhow, I've had him recovered and towed home, but my mechanic is away, so I'm going to have to go find someone local today to take a look. The recovery guy said he thought it was the belt, but didn't do anything more than turn the ignition then tow me home.
I'll keep you posted.... :(

Ok, he's now at a local garage....
If the worst comes to happen, anyone know anywhere I might be able to get a used or reconditioned cylinder head for a JTD 115?

Well I'm afraid it's about about as bad as it could get. A pulley shattered, and basically the engine is completely shot. It's not financially viable for me to repair it, so I'm going to have to sell for spares or repair.
So Before it goes on eBay, I'll give fiat forum first option... it's an 04 multiwagon, cosmopolitan blue. Very clean and solid. Everything works except the engine, 11 months MOT, fully working sky roof, 17" blades in pretty good condition with four decent matching tyres. Obviously would need towing away from near Blackpool... Make me an offer?

Not being technical, it was the one a the the top to the front. Found a pretty decent mechanic, came round, towed it to his garage, checked it out andtold told me everything dead straight, showed me the pulley etc. He's towing it back to mine tomorrow, and not charging me anything.... so I suppose I can't really complain, and I've no reason to think he isn't being straight with me.
I still owe over a grand on it, but the finance company sayif if I take our a new loan with them on a new car, they just want 500 deposit and willsettle the account, so anything I can get will help towards that...

Top front would be the camshaft pulley. Never heard of one of those going before.

Have you had the timing belt or camshaft sensor replaced recently? Perhaps someone left the retaining bolt loose.

That's the one. There was just the centre hub left with some broken spurs off it.

Nothing had been done to the engine recently, it had been running like a dream. The belt was changed when I bought it, two years and 45k ago.

**** the bed ... thats bad fella would it not be worth getting a second hand engine ?

My garage didn't think it was worth it. It's a big job to swap the engine out, labour costs would be expensive, that's if I could find a decent engine.
It's done 115k, so the clutch, transmission, suspension etc will all start needing work sooner rather than later, so probably more sensible to cut my losses.

I've had one guy enquire about it, a Stilo fanatic, has a new engine ready to drop in, so if he buys it at least its going to keep alive. He made me an offer, but there's plenty of interest on ebay, but no bids yet.

That's crazy! I've never heard of one of these going before. I suspect something inside the engine has seized which caused the camshaft to jam - hence overstraining the pulley.
