HI all, after the last few months of issues with fathers croma, it appears the issues have subsided (touches wood).

The EGR valve has been cleaned and seems to be working, however the engine management light has remained on.

Is there a way to re set this without taking it to the garage or having it plugged in?

We had hoped that unplugging the battery for 24H may have re set things however that just seemed to kick up warning message upon start up saying the window auto stop thingy feature is inoperative.

Anyway any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
If you've got access to a laptop you could try downloading ECUscan.

You'll need to buy a VAG cable as well to plug the laptop's USB port into the car's diagnostics port (in the fusebox behind the fusebox cables inside the car) but you should be able to reset the various warning lights with that.

You'll also be read various messages from the ECU so it's well worthwhile.

As suggested by BrianMcl getting Fiat ECU Scan and a cheap KKL (or more expensive ELM V1.3) cable is a good investment.

Meanwhile, assuming there is no other fault causing the light on, and the EGR valve cleanup is working OK, then after a few days of driving your Croma around the ECU will probably turn the light out itself. It will do this for most issues so I assume it will do in to EGR faults.

Thanks guys, unfortunatly it has been done a couple of weeks now and the lights haven't gone so the next options sound good.

Could you point me in the direction of where to get the aforementioned goodies? Would the cable/software also work on my 500?

Go to http://fiatecuscan.net/

Here you can download, read etc. for free. The free version of the software will cover everything you need at this point in time.

If I were buying a cable at this point in time, and based on what you need to do right now I would probably buy th cheeper KKL cable for now and wait for ELM V1.4 to be readily available. Although FiatECUScan will happily work with ELM V1.3a testing is underway the new V1.4 chipset so IMHO it is worth waiting a couple of months or so for the V1.4 to become readilay available. In the meantime the KKL cable will work for basic engine, ABS & Airbag stuff and will be a good backup alternative for when you switch over to ELM to get the additional systems support.

I got my KKL cable from AutoTec-Direct. ( http://www.autotec-direct.com & http://www.autotec-direct.com/usb-iso-kkl-interface-for-use-with-alfadiag-software-428-p.asp )

Mine was about £8 from ebay. It's a transparent blue one if that's any help.

Thats really really helpful guys, thanks a lot.

I've downloaded the software and will order the cable.

Thanks again.(y)

FiatECUScan was previously free, but some features now require the full (paid for) version.

If the latest version of FiatECUScan wants some money before it lets you do what you need then google for an older free version.

I forget the version number but it's on here when someone kindly let me know about it. Saved me a wad of Euros (y)
